What to expect at post op?

Tomorrow if my one week post-op appointment with my dr. I can't believe it'll be a week already! What should I expect at this appointment? I presume he'll check my incision and we'll talk about restrictions, etc...
Are this presumptions inaccurate?

Re: What to expect at post op?

I had my first post op @ 10 days out... (about two weeks)
You Dr will check your TAH incision and MIGHT also do an internal exam to check how the vaginal cuff is healing as well... Do not be alarmed about the internal exam if they ask you to remove everything from the waist down.. (My eyes got so wide when the nurse instructed me to do so as I was extremely nervous!) it is nowhere near as discomforting as a regular exam.. Mine also pressed on my tummy to check for hematomas and that was a bit uncomfortable but my Dr didn't hurt me or cause enough discomfort to make me want to kick him or come up off the exam table LOL

Mine asked me how I was feeling... asked If my bladder or bowels were giving me any problems, how my energy levels were... I presume yours will also address your HRT (noticed your on them from your signature) He will want to know about any menopausal symptoms you might be having, so take note about them now. Hopefully your HRT is treating you well!

I made up a list of questions (as suggested by this site) for both post op appointments (10 day & 6 week) He read them and went through each question step by step! So sit down with your caretaker (because the ones that care for us notice more symptoms AND think more clearly than we do lol) and have them help you make a list of questions and concerns sometime today or tonight.

Hope this helps! Don't be nervous. I wish I would have asked this question here before my 10 day appt cause I wouldn't have been as nervous as I was.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, princess!

PS: Someone else asked this very question a couple days ago... you can search for other links at the top of this page under search and it will search hystersister site. Here's a link to one.. i even posted in it lol

Re: What to expect at post op?

I was examined inside and out, stiches checked, etc. He asked how I was feeling, released me to drive, bathe in the tub and use my hot tub (not a public hot tub, though).

He also said to "tell Mr. Happy to stay away from me and be patient" (sex).

The exam didn't feel any different than a regular ol' pap smear. I was thinking it might hurt...

Re: What to expect at post op?

When I went for my first week post op, the doctor removed my staples and put steri strips on the incision since it was still weak. She answered any questions I had, gave me my pathology report and said she would see me in 4 weeks. Thankfully I was having no problems except for some minor bowel problems which I am taking stool softeners for. No internal exam....but guess I might expect that at my next appt.
