Sore spot/enlarged bump at IV site

What if you have sore spot/enlarged bump her the IV was administered? Could that be a clot? ANd, I've heard that when they appear on your arm, it depends on WHERE, above or below the elbow, that determine just how dangerous. Anyone else hear this? Any opinions on the IV site?

I think the very best thing to do if you even think you have a clot is to call your doctor. I do know that with clots in the leg, the ones above the knee are more serious than those below the knee.

I had a hard lump at the IV site for about 8 weeks which I was told was phlebitis (inflammation of the vein). Please contact your doctor, however, to confirm that yours is nothing more serious.

Have you found our <link> Post-Op Page yet? It's packed with information including an article on this very subject: Lump at IV site.

Will you let us know what your doctor says? Best wishes!

Re: Sore spot/enlarged bump at IV site

As the others mentioned, you should definitely contact your doc about this just to be certain.

However, I had this problem as well and it lasted a couple of weeks. The spot was raised and it felt and looked like there was still a tube inside of it. Turns out it was normal and it went away with no complications.

Better to be safe than sorry. I hope it turns out to be ok.
