thickened uterus wall with no bleeding, what next?
Hi,
I just got back from having an ultrasound of my vagina and the technician had me see the gynocologist as she said I had a thickening of my uterine wall. I feel fine and have had no bleeding for 10 years since my periods stopped. She did a biopsy so I am waiting to hear in a week what the results are. She said if normal, she might put me on progesterone, or do another biopsy as they are not always correct. If abnormal, a D& C. Then, go from there.
I am concerned because I hear so many hysterectomies are done that are not necessary. I also hear this of D&Cs. I have also read it is normal to have a thickened uterus after menopause and often extra weight can contribute to that. So I am wondering how serious to take the results (unless she specifically says I have cancer). I don't even like the idea of taking hormones, I am already on 4 medications for stress and BP. Maybe the stress caused my hormones to cause this new condition.
I knew a woman in her 40's who had a hysterectomy and it changed her whole immune system and she was sick as a dog for years.
I like my doctor but it is my body and she is in business to make money as much as I am wanting to avoid anything extreme.
This is quite scary what lies ahead. Just 3 weeks ago my husband and I were contemplating divorce after a 38 year marriage, and now this.

First wait for the biopsy. The concern is cancer or pre cancer (its the pre cancer they often try hormones for). Usually the d&c (as I understand it) here is to be sure they didn't miss cancer in the biopsy. You don't always get bleeding as an early cancer warning, sometimes its advanced before you get bleeding, or there may be no bleeding. If you catch endometrial cancer early it can be treated just with surgery. If its caught later, chemo and/or radiation are also required. If its cancer, you need to know. If its not cancer or pre cancer, iyou would not need a hyst, and could look into other options. I understand your distrust but at some point you need to trust someone at least for a diagnosis. Not all surgeries are needless, some procedures may save your life down the line. I know its all really scary but take it one step at a time. There is never a good time for a cancer scare. I hope you test out OK, try to stay calm until you hear.
