PepaLou- I'm celebrating with you!!! Can't wait to feel confident enough to toss all the stained panties, sheets, pajammas, etc...! I never wanted children, so when I needed to sign the paperwork stating that I understood that I wouldn't be able to have kids, my responce was WooHoo! No more birthcontrol pills!! This is a very positive thing for me, and many others.

Re: Am I the only one celebrating my hysterectomy? (kids mentioned)

I can understand how some of the ladies feel. I have two kids a son 22 graduating college and a daughter almost 19 entering her sophomore year of college. I am very happy about kmy surgery but I still can feel the loss of not being able to have more children. I didn't won't anymore but the feeling is there when I see new babies. My husband has warned more that I can't have anymore kitties. You see each time one of kids left for college I had to get a kitten. We already had one cat b ut now we have 3. We also have a large dog because I watched to many Air Bud movies. But I will say all my animal kids came from animal shelters

Before my surgery I was so miserable from the pain but now I'm happy.

PepaLou.....shortly after my surgery I was doing cartwheels too....now just due to the hormone issues I am regretting the surgery......That said, if I had not had the surgery by now I would have been addicted to pain meds...so if I really think about it logically I do not regret it...just wish there were no hormone issues......

I am happy too that I had my hysterectomy and I am not bothered really at all that I was not able to bear my own children. When I am ready; I can always adopt.

Re: Am I the only one celebrating my hysterectomy? (kids mentioned)

I wonder what to do with the leftover tampons and maxi pads?

My last 4+ week period was bad enough but I was feeling like a bladder infection was trying to start up the last couple of weeks with burning urination too. I drank lots of cranberry juice to fight it off.

I really look forward to wearing white shorts and pants more!

Canteach, thanks much for your support! I can't get into my specific situation out here in case someone recognizes me, but I'm going through quite a bit right now, so although this was absolutely welcome medically and I have zero regrets, it has impacted another part of my life quite significantly. Hope you all have a great week!

Re: Am I the only one celebrating my hysterectomy? (kids mentioned)

Pepa - I'm with you on the "happy boat". Your original post pretty much described my situation. We went through pregnancy loss, infertility, and then international adoption. On this Mother's Day I can tell you that we are very happy with our little girl. Anyway, before the surgery (TAH) I was very ready to "just get it over with" and had tears in my eyes because I was tired of waiting for the surgery to start, and the nurse said, "Oh, you're sad because you can never have a child--this is common with this surgery." I said, "No, I just want my sleepy drugs so I can rest and get on with life." I laughed and then told her about our daughter; then the nurse had tears in her eyes because she had been adopted from an orphanage at the age of four. It was a very touching pre-surgical conversation, for sure.
Anyway, the surgery was perfect--no post-op pain for 24 hours thanks to spinal morphine; no gas pain or constipation; early release from the hospital; straight, clean incision; clear pathology; and no bleeding since I've been home. I will return to work May 17th and feel so lucky to have this new start on life. I know people have a variety of experiences with this surgery, and I am just counting my blessings and trying to be supportive to sisters on the other side.
Best wishes for a continued great recovery!

Re: Am I the only one celebrating my hysterectomy? (kids mentioned)

I am positively elated, no more periods, no more painful pap smears, and all my friends are jealous.

I kept my ovaries so I'm sure that helps I wouldn't want to go into menopause at 38! I have had a reasonably uncomplicated recovery as well and as I am lucky enough to be a house wife come student I have been able to take time off. I feel for all of you whom have had to return to work so soon after such major surgery.

Re: Am I the only one celebrating my hysterectomy? (kids mentioned)

I was just thinking the same thing Pepa! I am SO excited to have this part of my life done and over with! I had been in so much pain and was losing so much blood it was crazy. I had bad DRs who kept telling me I was fine when I was not. I finally got a wonderful DR who listened and let me say enough was ENOUGH! Since I am so young it is hard to get DRs to listen to you when it comes to things like this. I had my tubal ligation when I was just 23 years old. Now at 29 I am left with one ovary which is just fine with me!

I have been blessed with 2 wonderful daughters (11&8). However I also know the agony of not being able to have/losing children.

As for the surgery I am SO happy and SO excited because now I can be me for the first time in so many years I cant remember. No more pain, no more problems. I can become active again and for that I am so grateful. I think a Farewell Uterus Party is exactly what we need!
