Yoga?

Hi all!

I am almost nine weeks post op, and doing pretty well, except I have a yeast infection, which is likely not related to the hyst. I was wondering if it would be safe to start doing yoga to try and get back in shape? I just found a t.v. program with yoga for a half an hour a day, and wanted to try it. Let me know what you think!

I would give

your doc a call and ask him if he didn't specifically release you at your last appointment to exercise. I wouldn't want to tell you it is alright to do because every surgery is different and each doctor does things differently. Only your doctor knows your specific situation. I forgot to ask my doc something at my 6 week visit so I called him and asked.

Good luck!

Yoga?

Hi Sandy, I have heard from alot of women who say that various yoga positions helped them tremendously with relieving gas pains, etc. Since, yoga involves alot of stretching exercises, please contact your doctor as to whether or not you can begin YOGA. It is encouraging to hear that you are feeling so well that you can contemplate an exercise regmen.....

All the best,
Rita

Yoga?

I agree that you should call your MD for the OK on Yoga but also one of the other Hallmarks in doing Yoga is that if a position hurts...you've gone to far. So if you kept it comfortable and stopped before the point of pain it should be OK. Remember, you're not going to get your foot behind your head the first day!

Yoga?

For me yoga was not good. I tried it at about 8 weeks and I figured out very early that I wasn't ready. I tried again at 12 weeks and things were better. But I still proceded with caution. Never took poses to the max.
I believe that Yoga is one of those modes that can be really good for one and no good for another. So please be careful. As the others have suggested...please ask you Dr if this is an ok thing to do. If you were not doing it prior to surgery then I may wait awhile. But see what the Doc says!

Let us know what he/she says

Blessings<><

Yoga?

Thanks for all the replies. My doctor basically released me to do anything I wanted, including sex, at four weeks post op. I did hold off on sex until six weeks, and only just vacuumed this week-end. I was not doing yoga before surgery, but am going to try it, gently. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yoga?

Okay, okay, you were right. I turned the T.V. yoga programme on this morning, started out (never having done it before) and lasted about three minutes before I started to hurt. I feel fat and out of shape since my hyst., and I don't know what to do about it. Can I do any form of exercise other than walking? The weather around here has been horrible lately - rain every day, all day. I don't feel less a woman without a uterus, but I do feel less than sexy about my body image.

Yoga?

slb,
Well I am glad you found out and decided that you are not ready yet. Give it some time and it will come.
Have you got access to exercise videos? Most video stores have an exercise section. You could rent a few and find the workout that fits your style. I would recommend a beginners workout and gradually work up to more advanced.
Here is a web link to videos

Yoga?

Hi Sandy!

I, too, was feeling like a ball of blubber after my six weeks of resting, resting, resting. I'm now about 12 weeks post-op, and I've gone back to the gym and I'm lifting weights, walking, riding the bike, and doing the elliptical machine.

I would think yoga would be hard for us to try at this stage since it involves stretching new things in very different ways. Try some light weight lifting. I can't tell you how much better I feel! You can do weight lifting with canned goods or little dumb bells. The trick is to start slow and work up.

BEST OF LUCK!!!!
