Extreme Urinary Urge, 4 yrs post-op
Hello,
I have spoken to my doctor about the sudden urge to urinate. Some times, it is so bad that I don't know if I will make it to a bathroom on time! I am only 44 and I never thought this would happen until at least 65!
My physician said it would improve with a higher estrogen dose. I've given it a month with no improvement. I plan to go back but I would like to know if anyone else has had this and what actions were taken.
Thank you

Re: Extreme Urinary Urge, 4 yrs post-op
Hi (((silver_vw))) Sometimes those of us on systemic HRT find that we get enough estrogen to deal with the systemic symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, etc., but not enough makes it into the vaginal walls, bladder and urethra. So, many of us also use vaginal estrogen, which helps with dryness and also the urge incontinence (and stress incontinence).
You might ask your doctor if he/she has any samples of Vagifem you could try, or if he/she would prefer you to try a different vaginal estrogen product (there are several good ones).
I hope this helps!
 s,
-Linda

It took me a long time to realize what the term vaginal dryness meant. I had been vaginally dry for quite some time. However, once I realized it I asked my doctor for something that will help with that.
Vagifem is awesome and really makes a big difference down there.

Re: Extreme Urinary Urge, 4 yrs post-op
I was in my late 30's when I hate my TAH/BSO and I had terrible frequency problems until I finally found a doc who would give me enough estrogen to get rid of these symptoms. I now recognize my symptoms as low E and rely on estrogen pellets and the Femring.
Experiment with various options (Femring, Estring, Vagifem, etc.) but do address this issue. My doc told me my bladder and vagina are next to each other and when one is low on estrogen it can cause a lot of bladder issues.
Good luck!
