Hives and Thyroid

I had total hysterectomy 1 year ago on 5/18/09 due endometriosis and fybroids. I choose to use the estradiol patch in the lowest dose, was fine until after about 3 to 4 months, started having red raised scratches on arms, legs, tummy, chest and neck that would itch like crazy. I thought I was having a reaction from the HRT, went to the GYN and was changed to pill HRT, in 30 min after taking pill, I had same itching reaction. GYN told me to stop patch/pills for 3 months to see if reaction stopped, it did not, had to take zyrtec on a daily basis to control itch, the red marks I would still get. Allergist said I had chronic hives and had concern that I had thyroid problems, as I have put on 30+lbs since surgery. I saw the Endocrinologist last week and have been told I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, have precription for synthroid now and have to wait till that levels out so I can once again get back on my HRT. Want anyone suffering from any itching hives to get thyroid checked, just might be your problem.

Re: Hives and Thyroid

I had the itchies when my TSH was a critical 132. Mine stayed around my neck. Big whelpy red patches. Went away when the synthroid started to work. Thanks for starting this thread. A lot more of us probably suffer from hypothyroidism than we think.

I got really fluffy too. Didn't feel like actual fat, just kinda bloated and fluffy. I had bad brain fog. Also had achy hands and feet, toes and fingers. Muscles in thighs were sore. And I was pure evil lol. My family was terrified of me. I didn't even realize I was being so mean. I thought it was everyone else.

You will feel SO much better when your synthroid starts to work. So much better, in fact, that you won't know how you managed to keep on living before you started it. Hugs and healing.

Re: Hives and Thyroid

I know about the "fluffy" feeling to. I was having aches like you, really bad in the morning getting out of bed to walk. Dr. says I have Vitamin D deficiency that is more than likely causing the bone aches. Was given script for 50,000 units weekly for Vit D. Has helped greatly. Feeling better now that I have been on Synthroid for 3 weeks. Hoping to get somewhat back to "normal" when I can get back to HRT.
