Incision leaking

I am four weeks post-op tomorrow and noticed that there was a tiny bit of leakage from the right side of my incision. It doesn't hurt and is not red. Has anyone else had this?

Re: Incision leaking

I had leakage from day 10 from the belly button and from the base of the incision fom the 3rd week. They told me it was subcutanious fat. I ended up with an incisional hernia-just back from surgery #2- but I had major leaking, not a few drops. You can ask for a culture to make sure there is no infection. Just take it easy and have it checked out. Do not hesitate to ask your Dr., he is there for to help you.

Re: Incision leaking

Has your incision opened any? Mine opened about 1/4 inch on one side, it ended up healing by itself. I did have this problem after I has a c section and needed to be packed but after my TAH doctor said it was ok and would heal. I would have your doctor look at it just to be on the safe side if your incision has opened up. It may be normal fluid. I have lots of fat, Tinabird, why couldn't my fat have leaked out. Darn!

Re: Incision leaking

That is what the fluid usually is. I have enough of my own fat too. The surgeon opened up an incision in one spot to drain and pack the lower part of my vertical incision but the belly button opened and drained itself.
All I know is I developed an incisional hernia. Is the leaking normal or is it a sign of something internal going on? Time will tell.
I would have it checked out twice.

Re: Incision leaking

I am 8 weeks out from a complete TAH.

I had seepage from my incision it was not runny like water just would seep out in a few spots. Because I had a stomache apron removed with my surgery so I have been seeing a plastic surgeon. He was not concerned as long as it did not get infected. He said I could use sterile gauze to catch if I wanted. Just keep it clean and dry. I too had my incision come open when they removed the staples. But he showed my hubby how to pack it and it cleard up after a few days. They also said I could Neosporin if I was worried about infection.

Hope this helps.

Re: Incision leaking

Thanks ladies! It was just that one time. The incision is not open. Seems to be fine now.
