Having surgery -- many questions

Just curious about everyone's first few days of experiences. What should I look for> Should I have someone with me all the time? Will I sleep alot? I know everyones pain is different but what is a realistic pain level for TVH?
Is anyone else excited to have surgery?

Just need basic, truthful answers... chat is not working for me as far as the room stuff.

Re: Having surgery -- many questions

I had a TVH. I laid around sleeping for a couple days. I didn't take narcs at home. My pain was like cramping and pulling/tugging, I took Aleve 2 every 12 hrs for 3 wks for total pain control. Really it was so much easier than I expected. Hope your recovery is easy, too.

Re: Having surgery -- many questions

Hi, I just had a TLH on Monday. I was home Tuesday night and my place was very carefully set up since I live alone. Someone has come by everyday to check on me and scoop the cat box (I can't reach!) but I've been able to heat soup, scramble eggs and make toast no prob, take care of all my other needs (in and out of bed, dressing etc...) I'm still taking some percocet and ibuprofen but am down to the minimum amount now. I'm still sleeping quite a bit and am happier lying down ;-).
Everyone is different but the pain has been very manageable with the meds I was prescribed. I was very happy to have surgery-my fibroids had gotten large and very uncomfortable! I can feel the difference already despite the swelling. Hope this helped and good luck!

Re: Having surgery -- many questions

I had LAVH on April 13, 2010. I stayed one night in the hospital and my daughter brought me home. She stayed one night (worked during the day) and then came by to check on me everyday and bring by a meal. I was fine alone, but layed around most of the time. I have an energetic dog who I had to leave outside or in her kennel for the first week or so. Afraid she would jump on me. You will need lots of rest . Beware that the pain meds will constipate you and this will bring pressure that is uncomfortable. Eat a lot of bulk and take stool softeners. I could shower the day I returned home.

Take it easy!! There is Hope!! Six weeks out and I feel great!! I was on HRT before the surgery, so no emotional issues to deal with right now. Good luck!!

Re: Having surgery -- many questions

Thank you so much for your help. I have had trouble on this site getting answers from "real people". Chats have not really worked out for me.
I also have an energetic dog "Jack Russell" Chester is 7 but still is really active. My mother in law will be staying with me everyday for a while. My husband works close by. I plan on laying around and doing nothing. I am in the process of preparing my bedroom.....
Thanks again.
