How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

Just curious!
I live almost 3 hours from the hospital and have to go for a biopsy on June 7th. Is that to far ahead to request a pre-op for June 28th surgery?
I hate to phone and bother them if is way to soon.
Might have to phone my doctors office on Tuesday and ask if they have any idea.

Re: How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

I ended up doing my pre-op two weeks early because of some scheduling issues--May 12th for a May 26th surgery. Nobody said anything about that being too early. But you should be able to call your dr or the hospital and ask.

Re: How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

Hey Hysterinjune,
the time may vary by facility. I amd having pre-op on June 4th and my surgery is June 14th(the day after my 46th birthday!). I think it's certainly worth asking. Good luck!

Re: How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

I was told they want the labs to be within 2 wks----but if you explain the travel time, that day may be acceptable. Its worth asking.

Re: How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

It must vary with the facility. I have been told different for each facility I have had surgery in. Usually 10 days to 2 weeks, however, the hospital I am going to for this surgery was willing to have results of ECG from March faxed from another facility.

Sure worth a call to find out.

Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: How far ahead can they do pre-ops?

I initially scheduled and then cancelled my hysterectomy because I decided to change doctors. I had already had a pre-op. In the end I had to redo part of it because I was told blood tests had to be done within 2 weeks of my surgery but things like the ECG were good for several months. But I think it would be worth asking as well.
