grade iv endometrial cancer can we still be operate ?

I have endometrial cancer grade 3 to grade 4 and they told me I will get chemotherapy no operation. Some doctors in usa told me no you can still get operate and the adjuvant chemotherapy.

Please provide me answer

Re: grade iv endometrial cancer can we still be operate ?

Hi Butterfly, I know a couple of folks who had stage III & IV uterine cancer and they did have hysterectomies. It sounds like you might benefit from 2nd, 3rd or 4th opinions. Don't hesitate to get them.

Best - Lauren

Grade 3 and or 4 just means the cells have gotten to the most abnormal stage... Stage of the cancer (how far it has invaded) is also very important.
Best to you.

Re: grade iv endometrial cancer can we still be operate ?

Hi, I also recall reading that with stage not grade 3 or 4 endometrial cancer if a surgeon does not believe it is possible to remove all visible cancer, you might be treated with radiation therapy to shrink the tumor enough so that surgery is possible. You might also be treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy instead of surgery.
I also encourage you to get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion. Good luck and pls keep us posted.

Re: grade iv endometrial cancer can we still be operate ?

there is a difference in grade and stage. I had a grade 3 and had a total hysterectomy. I think the stage cannot be determined until after surgery. This is what I was told. Get a second opinion and have the Dr make it clear to you about stage and grade. Best of luck to you!

Re: grade iv endometrial cancer can we still be operate ?

They can stage a cancer preop if it has invaded another organ, in which case, that would make it a stage 4. The decision to operate is often determined by the size of the tumour and whether it is amenable to removal.
I have a few friends whom I have been corresponding with who had stage 4 and the chemo actually shrunk the tumour down to a size that was more amenable to surgical removal.
It could be that the organ that it has involved cannot be removed safely.

Best wishes to you and please continue to ask questions as they come up.
Perhaps if you were to give us more info, it might be more clear why no surgery at this time

Janet
