Uterus or Fibroid Swelling Post UFE?

HI,

I had UFE 6 weeks ago and, with proper in hospital and out of hospital pain medication, I was fine. Not too painful. I have had some minor discharge since and was never sure if it was a period. However, about 2 weeks ago I surely got my period - much better than pre-UFE but still heavy and some small clots. But what is really worrisome is that my uterus/fibroid has swollen from slight bump to about 24 wk. pregnancy level. It hasn't gone down at all in 2 weeks and I have gained weight related to this. Not sure if my period is hanging on - seems to come and go - or if it is continuing discharge.

I went to my GYN (IR was useless. Just keeps saying "he's not worried") who does not have alot of experience with UFE but is a myomectomy guy. He thought we should give it a month and then do an ultrasound. He thought the fibroid was probably dying, holding fluid and swelling and this was why my tummy is so big now. No signs of infection at this point. I have not read anyone else having these symptoms in the forum posts. Has anyone else had this swelling post UFE? Continuing discharge? Any ideas?

Have you tried doing a site search to find other members who have had a UFE? Maybe their older threads could shed some light for you.

I am sorry that the IR is not being helpful and I hope your GYN is able to guide you through all of this! If he does not have the answers for you, hopefully he will be able to contact a colleague who can help!

in there!

Re: Uterus or Fibroid Swelling Post UFE?

I had a UFE in Jan. 2010 (see my new posts from yesterday).
Here I am 5 months later and I still have a "protruding" belly. I have not seen any change at all. I saw my primary doctor in April, and last week went to my gyno. They both told me that the fibroids are still "huge". I have not been back to the radiologist who did the laser treatment because he originally told me that it would be at least 6 or 7 months before I noticed any changes. I will wait another 2 months and then, if I still feel (and look!) the same, I will schedule an appointment with him. I feel very discouraged at this point.
I will keep everyone posted and if anyone else has any ideas, thoughts, encouragement, please pass it along!!
