Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I was just wondering if anyone fely like I do now before their surgery? I feel like screaming at everyone who talks to me about my problems and who try to make it seem like it's less than what it really is. I just want to say " Yes I'm 28 and having a hysterectomy, it's a major surgery and just because you can't see where I hurt doesn't mean that I don't hurt. It's not a broken leg that you can see, but yes I'm about to have a major life changing surgery. My MIL is really upsetting me because she is downplaying what's going on with me and it's making me feel worse. I didn't know if there was anyone else out there in HysterSisters land that is going through something similar. I am so ready for my date at the castle!!!!

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

You are not alone. Last night I wanted to tell everyone to just shut up and go to their rooms so I can have some peace. It is going to be a long recovery because I hate not being able to do things for myself. I know I'll survive it (hopefully everyone around me will ha ha). I'm sure it is just nerves and anticipation. Hang in there.

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I know how you feel! I am 27 and going to have a TV hysterectomy and cystocele repair. It is a major surgery and I too have people downplaying the surgery. It is frustrating! I am glad that I am not the only one that feels this way. Hang in there, we'll make it

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

It gets a little frustrating sometimes because people just don't understand or maybe they just don't care. I haven't told some of my friends because of how some of the people closest to me have reacted. So I think that I'll just get it done and not tell alot of people and then I don't have to worry about them not taking as it is. This is a major surgery and I just wish I had a little more support from the people that are close in my life.

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I'm tired of people saying "Oh I'm so sorry." and looking at me with pity. Actually it's kind of funny when I laugh and tell them I'm not sorry. I'm tired of the pain and awful periods. I'm ready for a new lease on life!

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

What gets me is when my MIL acts like it's nothing. She told me I don't need someone babysitting me 24/7 yet when she had hers a few years ago (TAH) she had someone with her for 6 weeks 24/7 and I drove her to work for 4 MONTHS!!!

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I feel like screaming all the time lately!!! Good thing my DH was out of town for work this week--he was spared my wrath--lol. One thing that really annoyed me today was when my supervisor said "so and so had a hysterectomy and she was back to work in 2 weeks." And I said "wow, she's crazy!" Then thought to myself--Hey supervisor don't you even think I'm coming back to work that quick--I'm taking the full 6 weeks that my doc approved me for. I've got the paid sick leave and I'm using it!!!! so put that in your pipe and smoke it!!! LOL

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I know how you feel. People respond with "Oh, I wish I could have a hysterectomy because I get such bad cramps". I tell them that bad cramps are just the tip of the ice berg! I also see the look of pity in their eyes until I tell them how much I am actually looking forward to the surgery. Finally, after 13 years, I get my life back!!!

Re: Does anybody feel like screaming sometimes?

I felt the same thing 2 months ago. Please make sure that you pamper yourselves for the full 6 weeks. I took the 6 weeks off from work and I needed them. I started to feel really good by the 3rd week and started to try and get back to my normal routine and by the 5th week I realized that I needed to slow down and rest the last 2 weeks. I will admit that the 1st week back was harder than I thought.

Remember one thing, you will not be given a award from work for returning early. Take the time and enjoy the rest. I'm only 10 weeks out and I have my life back and I'm enjoying life again.

Best of luck and Hugs to all!!!

You can tell them exactly this. That's the point.
That should shut up those with the stupid comments .

But remember: Sometimes people are only stupid and do not intend to offend you .

Screaming can be a relief because you feel like no one is really listening, but people get things better if you tell them in a rather cool voice.

And: HUGS. You have to go through this so young!
Take care!!!
We will make it!
