Finally, Something "Normal" ish - Pink Discharge Post Surgery

This is TMI but this is the only place I can really be truthful about things. I had constipation on Sunday. The one thing they said to NOT let happen. I had passed some blood and tissue into my catheter and also got pink mucusy discharge. I was fine yesterday but today I woke up with more pain in my lower abdomen and when I emptied my bag and wiped the area I had pink discharge again. It made me somewhat manic thinking maybe I had done some damage.

I called the doctors office and they got back to me pretty quickly. I was upset because I never had the discharge post-hysterectomy because of the urine leaking from my canal. She told me the discharge was fine because both the bladder and cuff are healing and it's normal. I'll be getting my void cystoscopy in about two weeks and then my appointment with the surgeon to remove my foley.

Sometimes I feel so immature and childlike because of the fears. At least with a wound on the outside one can watch it and make sure all is well but having things on the inside like this are scarey. Thanks for listening.

Hear ya, hear ya.

Can you take extra fiber such as Citrucel smart fiber to improve bowel movements? Or follow the post surgery 'liquid diet' for one of your three daily meals. Do check with your doctor's office for their advice.

Hope you heal well and smooth procedure in your next appointment.

Re: Finally, Something "Normal" ish - Pink Discharge Post Surgery

Thank you Jackie. I can't even begin to imagine what I would be like if someone had not recommended this site to me. The thought of other women going through all of this without the support given here just breaks my heart. I'm so glad I'm not alone though.

I've been taking a laxative and softeners and yesterday I actually took a dose of magnesium citrate to try to avoid any "blockage." It seemed to help. She told me I can mix several different products since they don't interact negatively with each other. When I have some money (waiting for long-term disability check to get off hold) I'm going to buy some Miralax. I have IBS and find that often times fiber, even when I take it with loads of fluids, binds me up more so than lets me go. Time to start adding even more vegetables to my meals that's for sure. I didn't get a "liquid diet" discharge slip but was told I could go back to eating what I usually eat. I've avoided red meats because I know they can be binding at times. Being a diabetic it makes things a little easier for me because I usually sustain myself on more vegetables and fibrous foods than empty caloric foods as it is. Thanks for responding. It helps to share.
