Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

I am concerned about adhesions forming from my LAVH, pelvic floor repair and hernia repair...done all at once, 5 weeks ago. I have adhesions from breast cancer surgery and want to do everything within my power to avoid internal scar tissue. There is an office in my neighborhood that specializes in MAYA ABDOMINAL MASSAGE and it sounds terrific. Ive also heard about VAGINAL CUFF MASSAGE. Anywone had experiance with either?

Janlea -

I had myofasical massage on my abdomen to release trigger points. It was wonderful.

I also had trigger points internally in my vagina and experienced the internal massage. I also used dilators to help release the trigger points.

Both of them helped me immensely.

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

I have an appointment tomorrow morning with a abdominal massage therapist that specializes in mayan abdominal and myofascial treatment. Thanks for you input tauruslady.

I looked up abdominal massage on the internet and watched a few videos...basically the same movements that my massage therapist does when I am haveing stomach, bowel or abdominal stuff going on. I started self massage last week when I began stretching again. The exercises on the check point (this site) are terrific. I also learned (after mastectomy and reconsruction) that gentle pressure with a finger-tip on incision sites (after OK with Doc) keeps scar tissue soft, reducing adhesions. I have been doing that on the suture site on the perinium and have no discomfort or tenderness now. That area hurt like the dickens after surgery and for 3-4 weeks!

After getting the ok for sexual intercourse yesterday, I used a small lubricated vibrator this morning and it was very comfortable, felt theraputic and relaxing. For me, that was a great way to introduce something into an area that (just six weeks ago) suffered such trauma. I will be less nervous and more relaxed when the time comes to engage with my husband.

i have had some anxiety about re-connecting with my body and its "new normal". Touch is a very important part of our good health. I hope this helps others

I will post on this thread after the treatment.

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

I had my Mayan abdominal treatment yesterday and it was very cool. Different and helpful! I could breath easier immediatly as he worked the rib cage area and center of my chest. The movements he applied to my abdoman felt wonderful. You could hear belly sounds and I could feel gas moving around. That was worriesome! I thought I might pass gas while lying there which may not have effected him but I would have been embarrased! The only soreness I came away with was in the ribcage area under my breasts where things where "very congested". I communicated the tenderness in that region and he helped me breath as he was applying pressure and sliding his hands to the target spot in the center above my belly button. I feel wonderful today.
I will take special care to go easy the next day or so to let things "adjust" and see him again in two weeks. In the meantime I will have my regular body work and continue stretching and walking and playing in the dirt. Its hard not to do too much when you start to feel good so my mantra for today is:
I will NOT overdo. I will NOT overdo. I will NOT overdo.

Tauruslady: My therapist gave me names of practicioners to contact should I need internal work done. They work with a couple of Urogynecologist in our area. Thanks for giving me that tip. Hopefully I wont need that but I have contacts if I do.

Get a massage Ladies!

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

fascinating, janlea!!! i'm so glad you are willing to share your experience with us. i don't think i'm ready yet for this kind of therapy, but sounds intriquing -- i have plenty of time on my hands for finding out more. i wonder how to find a practitioner -- did you look online, or know someone, or have a friend refer someone she had experience with?

hope it all settles in nicely, and you continue to feel good. i admit i'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to massage -- love it, as long as it's not too strong, haha! but i will look into this for after my six weeks.

where in the world do i find a vibrator, btw, and how will i know if i'm getting one i'll like? any tips? (mamma ain't never discussed this kinda stuff with me, LOL!)

thanks again for sharing. keep us posted if you can.

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

Wapspot: I found my practioner from a freind of a friend who used the treatment with wonderful results after a difficult childbirth. My friend is a post-partum depression counselor. However, I googled maya abdominal massage Kansas City and this Center came up along with a couple of other practioners in my area. The resource for the internal massage came from the spcialsis at the Center. I would bet that any well known and reputable massage therapist or physical therapist would have a resource for you to begin with.
About the vibrator. It was first used on me by a physical therapist during treatment of adhesions. My surgery scar on my breast that was removed and reconstructed runs under my arm. the type that she used was about 3/4 inchs round and hard plastic with a rounded end..only about 5 inchs long. She lubricated it and my skin and pressed it into the rope like adhesions to soften and relax the area before she worked on it wiht her finget tips. It was SO helpful.
I ordered mine online from Drugstore.com, very simple. I purchased a lubricant from them as well. KY jelly is fine, it is important to use one tho.
I grew up with a large heavy hand held massager that we used on our backs. I Have one at home now as well. Its called a Jeannie Rub and some chiropractors use it at the beginning before adjustments.
My momma didnt tell me about the advatages of a vibrator either..franky I am sure she didnt know!

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

I had Maya done at around 2 months post op. Did not feel it made ANY difference for me. Sorry to be such a downer, but I felt it was a waste of my money. Acupuncture on the other hand worked great for me!

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

mina: its been two days since I had my treatment and Ihad hopes that I would wake up this morning and feel like a new woman!
I don't.
I can breath easier for sure but Im trying to decide if my discomfort yesterday and this morning is coming from the treatment or the usual 6 week after surgery complaints. Did you have any pain after this treatment..sore or tender?
Im still undecided about this and yes...it was expensive. I will surely look into acupuncture. Thanks so much for your imput.

Re: Has anyone tried Mayan abdominal massage post op?

i will surely look into vibrator -- thanks for help, janlea!

dh will not likely approve specialist massage if it's so expensive, but i can say that without a doubt i will at least be heading to the spa when the time is right for an all-over massage and facial, to recover from my recovery!!

i will be massaging my incision site several times daily when get the doc's clearance. my dd had a gash that got stitches, and we massaged it for months. it is smack-dab in the middle of her forehead, and you'd never even know it's there anymore. i'm convinced the massage made a difference in it's appearance. we started out massaging cocoa butter into it, but eventually just used our favorite lotion. (this was after my breast-biopsy, which left me with a 2" vertical scar...wish the surgeon had told me to massage it! -- i had no idea. that was 2005.)

hope you feel better, jan. thanks again for tips.
