Thanks to sisters and encouragement for future sisters

I am so thankful for this website and for the direct and indirect advice I took from these virtual pages. It was all a great help to me as I prepared for my TVH/BSO (June 2).

I want to encourage those who are awaiting this procedure to know that they can and will get through it. It can be a very scary time filled with anxiety and worry. Focus on the positive, do what you can to prepare mentally and physically for surgery as well as preparing things at home.

My surgery went very well. I spent one night in the hospital with a catheter (that was a godsend!). My doctor inserted a belladonna & opium suppository in the OR before I woke up which offered complete relief from pain. I was walking around the unit that evening. The catheter came out the next day. I was a bit swollen so urinating was slow at first. When swelling went down, all was well.

I am 5th day post op now. The only problem I have had is with bloating which occurs when I am not resting enough. That is my cue to get horizontal! I have no pain at all. I had a lumpectomy the same time and I have no pain there either.

I take stool softeners, drink lots of water, eat lean protein, fruits and veggies, avoid dairy products right now, and I used miralax for the first time today. No pain with going to the bathroom at all.
