Have both overies, been 1 year, hot flashes

I am 46 had my surgery 1 year ago this month. I had a total hysterectomy but they left both overies. Like I said I have both overies but i'm a hormonal mess. I have hot flashes on and off all day and wake up every hour to use rest room and then have hot flash then toss and turn for about a 45 min. to 1 hour. Then an hour after I fall asleep I wake up again and the whole thing repeats its self. sleep an hour, wake up, hot flash, up an hour. I have night sweats sometimes where I wake up soaked and have to change . I'm more emotional get agervated easily and have on and off depression for no real reason. Is this normal? I thought that since I have my overies this wouldn't happen yet. Then I thought maybe my overies were in shock, but its been a year now. I'm 46 so could this just be normal menapause?
Thank you for any input you can give me. Kat

Re: Have both overies, been 1 year, hot flashes

That's about when perimenopause started for me, lasted til age 52. Perimenopause lasts for yrs. Mine improved and evened out after a few months. You might want to talk to your Dr or check out alternatives, since it can be a long haul. Mid 40's is a common time to start this stuff. Hope you find some relief soon.

Re: Have both overies, been 1 year, hot flashes

Mine started about then too. I also noticed i had several months of hot flashes and no period and then my period started up and the hot flashes went away. Then I had my TVH...kept ovaries. I didn't have hot flashes for awhile and now they have started up again. I am trying to avoid hormones and was dealing with the symptoms ok but now its wearing me down. I am currently trying soy. I was reading about how it mimics estrogen if you get enough. I am currently trying Revival soy...you can look it up on the internet. It is easier to get the proper amount in one serving. It is a little pricey but i am trying it for 4 weeks to see if i notice a difference...if not then forget it. I will say... that the week before I started it I was having probably 1 flash an hour atleast sometimes more during the day...less at night. Today I have had maybe 3....not sure if this is just a coincidence...I have been taking it a week now. Best of luck!

Re: Have both overies, been 1 year, hot flashes

Its funny I had a lot of night sweats prior to my hysterectomy and have not had ANY since (over 2 years now). I kept my ovaries and not on any hormones. I was VERY anaemic prior to hysterectomy and now wondering if my night sweats were actually peri related or was it my body trying to tell me there was something wrong and that I was anaemic.

Re: Have both overies, been 1 year, hot flashes

Dear Kitkas,
While reading your thread, I thought I wrote it. I am also 46 and in the exact same predicament. I kept my ovaries, but things are now, a year later going haywire. I have been suffering as well with no sleep, etc. I would suggest having your hormone levels tested. I need to find a new Dr. since my surgeon re-located to another state and my gyny retired. Good Luck to you!

hysterkat, you better knock on wood because that's how I was, but now five years after hysterectomy (kept ovaries), I'm having nightsweats, mood swings, etc.
