How fast is considered "a Fast growing fibroid "??

Hello I have 2 questions ...first off where do I update my profile to show My surgery date ? Im having My hysterectomy on june 30th ... and I am not sure how to update ...

2nd question is how fast is considered " fast growing " I had a myomectomy on july 7th 2009 to remove 10 cm tumors .. they said it would be 5 to 10 years before the tumors would return .. but its been less than 1 year .. I know that cancer is very rare in fibroids but I also know that "fast growing " fibroids have the highest risk of cancer ... it took about 6 years or so for my first fibroids to reach 10 cm but only 10 months for my "new fibroids " to grow to over 8 cm .. and to me that seems fast .. is it fast ??

how concerned should I be ??

I have been waiting for my Dr. to give me some anxiety Medication because the worry is driving me nuts not to mention the idea of never having children and the fact that my mother is constantly putting pressure on me to Fullfill her dream of being a grandma .. I havent even had the hysterectomy yet and she is already pressuring me to look onto adoption .. I just wanna tell her " look I feel bad enough that I cant give My fiance and myself a baby I dont need you to act like i have to make you a grandma to when its phisically impossible ! "..I need time to get used to not ever having my own kid before i can even think of the the idea of adopting someone elses .. ya know ? am I being selfish ?

To add your surgery date, there are 2 ways to go about doing this:

1) Click on Quick Links up top right next to Logout and then select Edit Details
OR
2) Go to Control Panel by clicking User CP and there you can select Edit Details

I am sorry that you are having to deal with all this again as you already had a surgery last year.

WOW, that is really fast if your fibroid grew back in less than a year to that size. I am glad though you caught it in time and are taking action now. Mine is 21 cm but I didn't know it was growing in me and so I don't know how long it took to get to that size. I was told mine would have taken about 5 or 6 years to get to my size...so if you average it per year, it would have grown about 5 cm each year.

I am sorry that you are feeling the pressure from your mom to have kids..I too don't have any children. You may need to have a heart to heart talk with your mom about your feelings and how now is not the time to think about adopting...maybe sometime in the future but not now. You need time to grieve over not being able to have your own children and your mom needs to try and respect that.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

Re: How fast is considered "a Fast growing fibroid "??

I asked thursday abiut anxiety drugs I still have no word from my Dr about anxiety med ! I am getting fed up .. I am in constant pain and have neevr been givin pain medication and now I am in constant stress and cant seem to get anything for that either .. I feel like since I am on a medical card I get the most generic treatment and its not fair ..not getting the right medical care 9 years ago with my miscariage is what caused my fibroids and led to all of this in the first place .. I deserve the best care just like anyone else ! Im so frustrated

Personally I got my anti anxiety meds from my regular Dr, not the GYN. You might try that. The ativan did help a lot. That is fast growing, so I see your concern, but most don't turn out to be cancer, fortunately. Upcoming surgery is stresSful no matter what, IMO. Hope you get your meds, and hope surgery goes well.

I am sorry to hear you will need further surgery to treat fibroids.

My fibroid grew from 4cm to 10cm within 18 months and the pathology report was clear. I had a TAH after trying Mirena for heavy bleeding.

Wishing you all the best for your surgery and recovery.

Re: How fast is considered "a Fast growing fibroid "??

I had a laparascopy in December 2009 to clean up my endo and fibroids (had an ablation then too). The doctor took all but one fibroid at that point...couldn't safely remove it thru the lap. In May I went in to see the doctor due to the pain my remaining fibroid was causing me...and surprise Mr Fibroid had a new friend already! I was shocked...so we decided it was TAH time.

My pathology came back fine...btw!

Good luck!
