Estrogen vs Progesterone ~ Please Help!!

I had a complete hysterectomy in Oct 2009. Had PCOS and Varicose veins in my uterus. Immediately after the surgery, my doctor put me on Vivelle Dot. Within 6 weeks, she had increased my Vivelle Dot dosage, added Estratest, and Zoloft. I gained 60 pounds!! I tried visiting with her, and she relayed through the nurse that it is what I should expect and I should excercise more and eat less!! She would not even take time to visit in person Very frustrated, so I visited with another doctor about my concerns. She had me drop all the above meds and started me on progesterone cream daily. I have been using that for 10 days, and feel very foggy, tired and disoriented. Has anyone else had these side effects? I don't know if it is from the progesterone coming into my system or if it is from all the excess estrogen leaving

If you have any thoughts, etc, please help!!!

Re: Estrogen vs Progesterone ~ Please Help!!

That sounds like how I feel with not enough estrogen. I'm not a hormone expert but progesterone alone seems counterintuitive for someone with no ovaries. Maybe you could find someone with more expertise in surgical menopause? Seems there should be some happy medium here. Maybe at least this Dr would discuss it? Good luck, wish regulating hormones was not so hit or miss. Hope you feel better soon.

If you're taking an antidepressant, you're supposed to taper off slowly, not abruptly.
I was told, (so not sure how true) that your estrogen should be balanced before adding progesterone or testosterone.
If it was me I'd try the Vivelle dot again, and if it seems like too much, you can cut it in half. Also different parts of your body absorb it differently.
