4 weeks Post Novasure and not happy

I've had dysfunctional uterine bleeding for several years now. My Ob/Gyn insisted that I try Novasure before a partial hyst so I had it done 4 weeks ago. So far I can honestly say that I'm NOT at all happy with my results. I know it's only been one month and can take up to 3 to see the full improvement but so far my cramps and are still horrid and I'm on cycle day 6 with no signs of it easing up anytime soon.

I'm so, so aggravated. If I'd just insisted on the hyst I'd be almost completely recovered by now. Now if this doesn't work I'll have to have surgery all over again and start the recovery time all over again.

I know this procedure does work for some people but I'm thinking mine might have failed

Re: 4 weeks Post Novasure and not happy

I feel for you.

I also have also been fighting rediculously painful cramps with dysfuntional bleeding for years. I just got back from my own frustrating gyno appt today and am going to try one last ditch effort with something called cyclokapron. Then unless a miracle happens, I will likely skip ablation and go straight to hyster.
Why is it such a big deal for doctors to prescribe pain meds that actually work??????
I am so fed up with all of it!

But enough of my frustrations, I hope your procedure does end up a success, inspite of the initial disappointment. Give it another month and try to de-stress -I don't know about you, but stress always makes my symptoms worse

HI

I had the Novasure ablation done in May 09. I had extremely heavy bleeding by no cramps. It did take a few months for the flow to lighten up for me. Procedure was 5/14 and I had my first cycle on 7/4. That first one was the heaviest one with a few days of moderate flow (but still much much less than before the procedure). Then for the next several months I had only lite panty liner type periods if I got one at all. (I was 50 at the time and was starting to skip periods some months).

By the 8th month post op, I started to get some menstrual cramps and the "spotting" type periods were lasting longer (like 20 days). Finally at the 10th month (March 2010) the flood gates opened up and I ended up with my emergency TAH / BSO.

I had several large fibroids which increases the changes of ablation failures.

At 4 weeks, you are still early on after the procedure to know for sure if it worked. I say give it a few more months.

Re: 4 weeks Post Novasure and not happy

Since you say you had dysfunctional uterine bleeding, I am going to assume the doc did all the tests and found nothing "wrong" with you. If that is the case, it sounds like this could still work for you. Have you been cramping since your ablation or just with your period? I had mine almost 3 months ago, and my only regret is waiting so long. That first period after all the spotting had stopped also had me thinking I had made a mistake. The last 2 though have been very easy. Absolutely no cramping or pain and very light bleeding. I still spot/bleed for 5 days or so, but it is very light. Seriously, my period is a non-event now. Piece of cake. Anyway, give it some time. My OB warned me that my first period was going to be pretty bad but that it would get better. Hang in there.

Re: 4 weeks Post Novasure and not happy

I'm sorry to hear the ablation didn't work for you. I had the same procedure done in April 2008 and it didn't work for me either. The doctor told me she could count on one hand how many times it didn't work. My periods just continued to get heavier each month. I had several fibroids about 3 cm in size at the time. I just had my hysterectomy on June 1st and this doctor suspects I had adenomyosis along with the fibroids. I had no idea and had never even heard of it. Hopefully yours will get better with time.

No my Ob/Gyn didn't find anything wrong with me. The cramping is only during my period but it's bad. So far I'm on day 7 of my period and it shows no signs of slowing down

Re: 4 weeks Post Novasure and not happy

I had Novasure 5/09. I bled and cramped for two months but then things leveled off. It did stop my heavy bleeding and cramping. I still bled every month as I was not one of the women lucky enough to not get a period but it was very light and didn't require more than a panty liner. Unfortunately, I ended up with a TAH in April of this year due to severe endometriosis and other issues. Good luck.
