Losing weight but belly is still huge...normal or not

I am almost three weeks post op, I am so sick of elastic waist everything. I tried on a pair of shorts that I wore before surgery and I can't even come close to buttoning them up. I have lost about 6 pounds since surgery. How long will the swelling last. Since I have the incision across the belly I don't have the stomach muscles anymore to pull in the pouch. Any suggestions or ideas??
I was also wondering about sleeping, I have ALWAYS been a wonderful sleeper and I have the hardest time falling asleep and slaying asleep! Thanks ahead of time for any information or ideas!!

Re: Losing weight but belly is still huge...normal or not

I am 5wks post op today...still a pouch. It is horrible, I cannot button my pants at all.

No advice but you are not alone. I have read on here anywhere from 6wks to 6 months...it is going to be a long summer.

Re: Losing weight but belly is still huge...normal or not

I am also five weeks post op. At first I had lost several pounds but they're back on. My stomach is still a bit swollen and I wear just elastic waist shorts. I no longer have trouble sleeping on my stomach and can roll to and from my stomach without any trouble. At the six weeks mark I hope to start exercising again. I feel great and have more energy than before. I had some trouble with back pain earlier this week when I walked a lot followed by housecleaning. This experience told me I need to slow down some (still). Once I am back to my normal acitivity level I hope to get back to a fit me!

Re: Losing weight but belly is still huge...normal or not

I hate to tell you all, but I am 11 weeks post op and I still get swelly belly. It's not so bad in the morning, but by the time I get home from work, it looks like I gained 10 pounds. My other hystersisters, say this will probably take about 6 months to go completely away. I can say, i am wearing most of my clothes I wore before hand, but the ones that were a little snug are just too uncomfortable by the end of the day. I did wear the swelly belly band for a long time and it really helped. now I am wearing spanx and they help me feel better and feel more toned.
