When to call the doctor & what to say?

I am one week post-op today, so far everything is progressing normally.

I sat in a reclined chair for an hour or so and whilst sitting there I began to feel sore, especially in the upper abdomen. It seemed like a good angle, but maybe not.

I returned to bed and over the next hour I began to feel sort of feverish, chilled, achy, weird, but when I took my temp it was below 100F.

The only other potential symptom is that it hurts a bit more to cough than it had been previously.

My surgeon is 3 hours away, my local gyne is 1 hours away.

Do I call? What is the point of the call? Just that I feel weird?

Re: When to call the doctor & what to say?

I was told persistent fever over 101, uncontrolled pain, bleeding through a pad an hour all warranted a call. That said, sometimes our bodies know when something isn't right and a call can give us the reassurance that we need.

Here's a post-op article that might help you When to call the Dr.

The point of calling the Dr is that you are concerned you are experiencing unexpected complications and want to see if they want you to come in, go to an emergency room or maybe pick up additional meds.

It's a better safe than sorry type of thing.

Re: When to call the doctor & what to say?

I called in around 230. left a message on the nurses VM, called back an hour later, they checked with a Doc who was in the office that day. He said that if the fever was 100.5 or above or if the pain become unbearable, then I should go to the ER.

By the time I got this info together it was after 4PM, I called my PCP and asked if they could do a quick urine test, hurried to get there before they closed, got a positive Dx for UTI and an Rx. They will also send the sample out for a culture.
