Bi-est compound

so after 3 years of the climara patch, my dr. finally got me a prescription for bi-est. It is a 50/50 compound. I will be starting it in 2 days when I take my climara patch off. I am praying it helps more with the constant ups and downs of the patch wearing off. I am curious to hear from any of you who are using bi-est as to your stories of how it works for you, when you apply it and if you had any side effects. Thanks SO much!!

Re: Bi-est compound

Lisa,

I use Bi-est and have for quite a few years now. Mine is a 80/20 compound though. 80% estriol and 20% estradiol. It has worked well for me. What delivery method are you going to use?

Re: Bi-est compound

the delivery is through pre-filled syringes. I applied the 2.5 mg and had a headache, breast pain, anxiety and calf pain within an hour. I am at the end of my rope. with the climara, the only problem I really had was the patch working for more than 4 days, staying on and the anxiety when it was wearing off. I don't know why I am on a 50/50 prescription. The pharmacy is not open, but I will call tomorrow. I don't know if these are side effects or if the dosage is too much for me. With the climara I was only getting the estrodial. The compound pharmacy said in order to make just that prescription it would cost more because it would be tailored to just me and they had the Bi-est there. ? Do you think the 50/50 is too much or does my body need time to adjust to the newly added estroil? Thanks for your opinion and any feedback you can provide!!

Re: Bi-est compound

Hi,
It can take awhile for the body to adjust to any changes in ert. However; if you're having awful symptoms almost immediately maybe the dose is too large and you are experiencing a rush. Maybe back off a bit on the doseage? I do find it odd that the pharmacy said they already have this made up as a Compounding Pharmacist does make hormones to order, that is; tailored to each individual.

If you like the idea of patch, perhaps you could ask your doctor about the Vivelle Dot. The Dot is much smaller than a the Climara and is changed 2x per week. From what I've read it does stick better.

Re: Bi-est compound

Kim, thank you so much for all your help! I forgot to mention that I am only 100 lbs, and have great sensitivity to any meds. I take a child like dose for everything! Lol!! When I applied it, I only used 1/2 of the syringe amount prescribed and STILL had these problems. I wonder if anyone is just using the estrodial and not the Bi-est. This is the only compounding pharm. in my area and I was a little confussed that they made it like this instead of what my dr. prescribed (although had to talk to her) she was totally confussed with what I wanted and the bio's. The vivelle is not covered by my insurance (tried that route) is the estrosorb just estriodol? I have have heard good things about that type. I want to get off the patches so I can swim with my kids, take baths.... the oral delivery marks my anxiety! You are so sweet!!

Re: Bi-est compound

Hi again Lisa,
Yes, Estrasorb is Estradiol. Might be worth a try. I know what you mean about oral, my system doesn't do well with oral delivery, even with other meds.

Maybe your doctor will have some samples of the Estrasorb so you can try it before spending money on a prescription.
