Trying to get OFF of Narcotics

been on Vicoden 7.5/325's since Jan... started taking 2 at a time after my TAH.. And darvocets.

I am happy to report.. i am on Day 2 of no narcotics... have only been taking Ibuprofen.

DH and mom are so happy.. I know i have been addicted to this stuff.. and it is NOT easy to get off of.. but i am doing it.. (got off of Morphine in April).. cold sweats and an electric feeling through my body are my main complains.. I am on HRT (Estradiol) and was not sure if which was causing the cold sweats.. but i am almost positive that it is the withdrawl symptoms.

belly STILL hurts.. but incision looks good.. though it has been hurting lately.. the hard thing for me.. is sitting up.. not to use my stomach muscles.. everytime i do i get a lil twinge of pain. i def can understand the 6-8 weeks though.. only on 2.5 weeks.. lol

thinking about all of you out there.

speedy recovery!!

Re: Trying to get OFF of Narcotics

wow, that has got to be difficult! Congratulations on being off of them for two days! That's a huge accomplishment - every day counts.

Maybe your doctor can give you some advice on how to wean yourself off of them.

I wish you well!

Re: Trying to get OFF of Narcotics

Oh goodness!! I can sympathize with you!! I have been on/off narcotics since April 2009, but constantly since December 2009. I am down to Motrin 800 during the day and 2 Darvocets at night. I am getting low on them and have that all too familiar feeling of "oh no, oh no, time to call the DR". When I was 19 I was in a car wreck and got totally hooked on Vicodin, and my DR at the time told me to use Tylenol PM at night to help with the restless withdrawl symptoms, so I am determined this time to try that again, as I don't think the pain is so bad I NEED the pain meds as much as I THINK I need them...if you know what I mean...

Hang in there! And try the Tylenol or Advil PM at night if you have the restless feeling...it helped me. Wishing you well and sending HUGS... these narcotics are such a darn catch 22!!!

Toooootally understand that.. and you DONT need them.. that is the first thing that has too sink into your mind. I went through a 80count Ibuprofen in a week trying to get the "electric" feeling outta my system from the withdrawl of narcotics... that is not good..

I am officially OFF all narcotics.. i am only taking 2 aleve a day.. and my sleep meds at night.

After back surgery i got addicted to Tylenol PM also.. i had 3 doctors tell me that i should just take Benedryl.. it has the same sleepy stuff in it. I am now doing 2 benedryl and 10 mg of ambien.. and for the most part...sleep great.

Good luck and it is a hard thing to get through.. but WE CAN DO IT!!!!
