Flaxseed post op, good or bad

I'm 3 weeks post op tah-bso for endometriosis and have decided not to do any hrt because I am afriad of it activating any endo that got left behind. I read that flaxseed is good post op because of the sudden menopause. I also just read that flaxseed is a phytoestrogen, which sounds to me like it could restart endo also. Has anyone had this experience?
Thanks!

and I'm 39 yr. if that helps...

Re: Flaxseed post op, good or bad

ksw,

It sounds like it could work the same as estrogen. That's the problem with endo, if they don't get it all, they you can still have more issues down the road. Now, that all being said, sometimes the need to use estrogen will offset the risks. Like me, I was 31 when I had my lavh/bso. My doctor thought it was best that I was put on a low dose of estrogen. At this point I just hope they got all of the endo.

Was your doctor an endometriosis specialist? If so, he/she might have actually been sucessful at removing/excising all of the endo.

Perhaps another (((sister))) will come along that has used the flaxseed and be able to share more info with you.

Re: Flaxseed post op, good or bad

I love flaxseed, and it is usually in my cereal. Now, I haven't been eating my cereal really regularly, (not enough for it to be considered HRT), but I have had some since week 2 post-op, in both my cereal and in other dishes, and had no problems with pain other than normal post-op pain.
