Uterine prolapse (Updated: no hysterectomy needed)

I am 26 with 3 kids. I just had a cone biopsy and I called to complain of pain. My dr told me I needed a hysterectomy. I have uterine prolapse to the second degree ge said. My worry is I went to a different dr in nov after my baby was born and he took measurements and told me I was perfectly normal for someone with 3 kids. My surgery is scheduled for July 28. He said he would leave my ovaries if they are not diseased but I don't know if this is a right choice.

Re: Uterine prolapse.

u could always get a second opinion and see if another doc feels the the same way so that u can get some reassurance that you are doing the right thing

. He made the surgery so soon. I don't know if they'll get me in soon enough but he said my bladder would fall with it. I don't understand how everything could have been fine a ouple months ago n now it's falling out. I originally went to a specialist because i could feel something coming down. But he said it was fine

Re: Uterine prolapse.

Please do yourself a favor and get a second opinion, even if it means postponing your surgery. I had surgery last year and two weeks after surgery all my original symptoms returned and I have had complication after complication since. A Doctor at another hospital said that she didn't think I should have had the surgery as (and she was looking at my records) pre-surgery prolapse measurements were not bad.

So please take the time to get another opinion. Doctors can be wrong....

Re: Uterine prolapse.

When I had my last baby in November I had what I thought was a clot. ( thick after baby clot, since I di not have an episiotomy because my kids weren't even a full year apart I was not in pain. I was showering n bm as usual. I called the nurse she called dr but he had left for the day told her to push it back in, which she did. Next day dr said it was nothing.) I made an appt with plvi health specialist who took measurements n catheterized me n told me I was fine n it was just my hymen. Don't know if I spelled that right. But he said he would cut it out in his office n no big deal. I let my ob cub it out. It has been the same position since I seen that dr. I really don't hurt but I have a bump in my pelvic area that ob told me were probably cysts? Not his area. I would think it is I am a nervous wreck. But don't want to wai. Until my bladder falls out. Hesaid mine would need tacked back up. Do u needto remove uterus to do that?? If I do have to do this how will I handle 3 kids not lifting n e thing for 6 weeks.

Re: Uterine prolapse.

If you are not in pain, then don't have the surgery until you are ready. Please, get a second opinion. None of these pelvic floor issues are life threatening. I was rushed in to my surgery with soooo many guarantees with ill results, I wish I had taken my time and shopped around. I now have a lifting restriction for life, thank God I have no little kids!

Re: Uterine prolapse.

Thanks I just called for another dr. Won't go til July 19. But still before surgery. I don't know how I will ever not be lifting something with kids there toys. It's a project to go n where they fight me n drop to the floor when they don't wanna go. I would like to be able to urinate normally again. But it's not that bad. I can feel pressure but no real pain. I am just scared. I looked online n there are alot of problems even when they leave the ovaries. I wish inknew more about it. When I called the dr all he said was uterine prolapse n I asked what happens next he gave no other options just remove it. N I had to ask tobknow what would happen

Re: Uterine prolapse.

As Ireland said, get another opinion. I have a feeling the procedures I had were not what I really needed, and now I am worse off than I was before.

Re: Uterine prolapse.

Hi there,

Call your doctor and ask if being fitted with a pessary is an option if you wanted to wait on the surgery. I was offered that before my surgery (more in passing than a real offer) and wish I had tried it now. Because I now have vaginal vault prolapse I now wear a pessary and it is pretty comfortable and keeps everything up and snug and also helps you pee better. I hated the thought but in actual fact it works fine and I am able to take it out at night, for sex etc. It certainly should help you be more comfortable and pee properly. Lots of women use it to put off surgery for a few years.

Hope this is of some help.
Fiona.

Re: Uterine prolapse.

Thanks he didn't give me another option. I called because I had a cone biopsy n said I had a pain. They put my dr on who said I had prolapse to 2nd degree. I asked what is done for that and he quickly said remove it. I guess I was bothering him because he said we'd talk about. It at my next appt. I Didnt even have an appt at the time. If I would not called to complain I don't know hen he would have told me. I made another appt with a different dr this morning they said I was there in Jan. In 6 months I don't think it changed that much. N the other dr said I was fine for having 3 kids I was normal. I was only worried about menopause, n as weird as it may sound not having my period 4 ever. Like somethig would be missing. I didn't want to have any more kids but I think losing it is going to make me feel empty. Not that I was ever conscience that my uterus Is there n e way?! Now I have read many stories people have painful sex or don't care to have sex, not lifting stuff I am very hyper n always cleaning n moving stuff around. Menopause n I don't like to take medicine even when people have kept ovaries they have sometime gone through menopause. Do u have n e of those symptoms. I would like to ask dr about all these things
