Laparoscopy ????'s

Well I think I finally found a doctor that's willing to help me. He's suggested doing another ultrasound which he'll be in the room (the one I had in July the doctor was nowhere to be found). He says that he doesn't expect to find anything but needs to do one for himself to be sure. He said from there we will do a laproscopic procedure to see if we can find some answers. He's going to do a laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy at the same time. I've had the hysteroscopy done but not the lap.

My sister-in-law told me that her lap was horrible and she was in the hospital for three days, yada, yada, yada. I was under the impression (and the doctor did say it was an outpatient procedure) that you went home the same day and had some bruising and to take it easy for a few days.

I have a 4 year old and 2 year old and only my husband to rely on. Both of our families are out of state and not really an option to come and help. My questions are: How much time will I need to heal from this relatively minor procedure and, how bad should I expect to be bruised, achy, etc.??

Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Laparoscopy ????'s

I have had 2 lap procedures done. I needed about a week off from work after each, due to the nature of my job. Both times they were done on an outpatient basis, and I went home the same day.

LAPROSCOPY & HYSTEROSCOPY

I HAD MY LAPROSCOPY & HYSTEROSCOPY IN JUNE 2001. THE PROCEDURE WAS DUE TO START AT 12:00. THE USUAL HAPPENS, YOU ARRIVE 2 HOURS EARLY AND THEY PREP YOU. I WOKE IN RECOVER TO MY DD & HUSBAND TELLING ME I HAD SEVERE ENDO AND THAT WE WOULD TALK MORE LATER. THEY ASKED ME FOR MY PAIN LEVEL, WHICH WAS ABOUT A 6. NOT TOO TOO BAD. IT WAS ABOUT 4:30 P.M. AND I FELT REASONABLY OK BUT MY DOCTOR WANTED ME TO JUST STAY OVERNIGHT FOR SOME REST. I BELIEVE MY DOCTOR JUST FELT BAD FOR EVERYTHING I HAD GONE THROUGH IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THEY BROUGHT ME UP TO MY ROOM & MY HUSBAND & SISTER-IN-LAW WERE THERE. I KEPT FALLING ASLEEP ON THEM. I THINK I WOKE UP ALITTLE TO TELL MY HUSBAND TO GO HOME TO OUR TWO SONS (2 & 5). I THEN FELL ASLEEP FOR MOST OF THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE DD JUST WANTED ME TO TAKE IT EASY AND EAT SOMETHING. SHE CAME BACK AT LUNCH TIME AND LET ME GO HOME. I AM VERY LUCKY AS FAR AS HAVING SUPPORT. MY SISTER-IN-LAW & HUSBAND'S PARENTS LIVE NEXT DOOR. MY SONS SLEPT OVER THEIR HOUSE THAT NIGHT BUT THE NEXT DAY OTHER THAN BEING A LITTLE SORE, I WAS OK AND BACK IN ACTION WITHIN A FEW DAYS. I KNOW THIS POST SEEMS LONG BUT I HOPE IT HELPS. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN E-MAIL ME DIRECTLY AT ANYTIME. TAFSMF@AOL. GOOD LUCK.

Laparoscopy ????'s

I stayed in the hospital overnight after my third lap, but the doctor warned me it would be extensive (she took out the whole peritoneal lining among other things). Plus I had hysteroscopic removal of fibroids. My other laps I went home the same day. You wake up, pee, and you're in the wheelchair before you can say "Jack Robinson".

The gas pains can be bad, but alternating between walking and lying down (FLAT, no pillow) makes a big difference and you can use a heating pad as soon as they let you and that helps, too. You'll probably have a lot more bruising from the hysteroscopy than the lap. A lot of the postop pain depends on how good the surgeon is at getting the excess gas back out of your tummy.

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery!

lap recovery

I actually am indulging in hours of the internet while recovering from a lap performed less than 48 hours ago. ( also a hysteroscopy and D&C at the same time) I went home within two hours of the procedure, and have been doing ok,, quite sore, but ok. Today is worse than yesterday, so it seems that he bruising and such develops over the first day or two. I am ok enough to be taking care of and nursing my 2 month old!(the older kids are in school,so I get them off and then crawl onto the couch bed,, DH has been cooking dinner for me) I am also ok enough to still take my husband to the B&B I had planned for this weekend, his 30th birthday,, just no romance. poor guy!

This is my second lap,, and because of the additional procedures as well as an infection problem following my delivery (I also had a tubal 8 weeks ago (if only I had known I would probably have a hysterectomy within the next few months!) and a D&C 3 weeks ago (they didn't seem to get all of the gunk) I am much more sore this time....but still coping (though loving the pain meds and heating pad!)
