Re: Had my bso surgery almost 2 weeks ago...read on...
Hi,
No, I was not already in menopause. I had a TAH on December 3, 2003, and I kept my ovaries. I actually thought I would have them forever.
I had been having lower back pain for a few years, but I thought it was because I was a former gymnast (from kindergarten through early college). I also thought my lower back pain was from being in a couple of car accidents (being hit from the back at a very low speed). I would also get pelvic pain, but it was never real bad. Then on June 15, 2010, my pelvic pain was bad. My husband took me to the emergency room (where they did an pelvic sonogram and a very lengthy trans-vaginal sonogram). I had a huge cyst on my right ovary, left fallopian tube was very dilated, a mass in my left ovary and a mass on my left ovary. I was devastated when the doctor told me this (especially since my mother died from cancer in 2009). My gyn and my primary care doctor were immediately called regarding this. I saw both doctors within the next two days. I went over everything with both doctors, and they both recommended the removal the ovaries, fallopian tubes, cyst and mass. Once the surgery was scheduled, I was somewhat relieved and worried much less. So, that's the reason I had the bso. I apologize for the length of my post.
I believe I felt different because I went into sudden menopause. I began to have menopause symptoms the same day as surgery (which I believe was a total shock to my body, but not to me since I knew it was coming). Hope that didn't sound too confusing.
I wish you the best on your surgery. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Take care.
