Progesterone and Thyroid Meds

Hi All,

I'm back in the jungle and have a quick question.

As per my compounding pharm.'s advice, we took out my bi-est 1.25, and added 100 mg of progesterone (now I'm 200 mg progesterone, no estrogen). I really feel so nice and calm, but my joints started to get red and swollen.

I asked him about it after giving the progesterone regimen three weeks. He said he wasn't sure why that might be, and I tried to go back to the estrogen with progesterone but feel so much more agitated. And, I still have the red swollen joints. I'm still on the increased progesterone, just with the added bi-est now.

Could the progesterone be making my Armour work better, and could that cause the joint swelling (maybe too much T3?) Has anyone else had a similiar experience. I really liked the way I felt without the bi-est better, except the joint problems.

Oh, I have no other hyperthyroid symptoms.

Thanks!

Progesterone and Thyroid Meds

Hi Carol,
Sorry you are back in the jungle
It's more complicated with thyroid issues, and making changes as you know can create havoc for a while. A new regime requires around 6 weeks for thyroid to adjust, so getting thyroid tested at the end of that 6 weeks might be a good idea.
I know in this country that the progesterone creams carry a warning as far as consultation with your doc if you suffer thyroid problems - and I'm not sure what the deal is?
I don't have any first-hand knowledge on the specifics of thyroid, so hopefully someone else will come along with their thoughts.

Progesterone and Thyroid Meds

Progesterone does support the thyroid - so things just might be working better.

But - I wonder if it is too much progesterone causing the joint problems instead of the thyroid.

I have a lot of trouble with progesterone and one of the symptoms I get is sore joints when my levels get too high. I get by with 25 mg which is about 1/10 of what you are taking.

just a thought, anyway. Good luck to you.
