Re: Anyone having LSH? I heard recovery time is 6 days?

I had my LSH/BSO on 7/26. It definitely is an easier recovery than a TAH but you still have to be careful. I feel really good with some pain still managed with pain meds. My little incisions itch like crazy. I have some swelly belly. There is the tendency to want to over do it but it is still major surgery and a lot of damage can happen internally. Don't push your recovery. Let family members treat you like a princess....take all the pampering you can get.

I don't feel quite like myself yet but have been able to do some minor housework.

My restrictions are no driving for at least 2 weeks, no sex for 3 weeks, no lifting anything over 10 lbs and no swimming/bathing until my post-op appointment at end of August.

So far no menopause symptoms. I can't take an HRT because of family medical history. I have been taking Amberen and seems to be working.

Re: Anyone having LSH? I heard recovery time is 6 days?

I heard the same thing and didn't believe it. I took 2 weeks off of work and was surprised how much I was hurting and not ready to go back even then. I don't have a physical job or anything that is strenuous but just being up all day really hurt my abdomen. Of course I gutted it out and made it through but I had to go straight to bed when I got home each day.

It is still major surgery & you will need time to heal. Your still having major body parts removed. Best wishes to you!

Re: Anyone having LSH? I heard recovery time is 6 days?

My LSH-BSO was on 7/15. It was same day surgery so I was in and out in about 6 hours. Pain wasn't too bad and I didn't have any vaginal bleeding either. At my 1 week postop I was cleared for anything I felt up to except sex. That was 5 weeks. The worst part so far of my recovery has been the emotional stuff and the night sweats. I also still get tired pretty quickly. Like you've read here don't rush yourself. Even though you might feel good it is still a major surgery and you need to take the time to heal. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for all the advise.. I will probably take 2 weeks for sure, but I can't see going back to work as a Pharmacy Tech in 6 days..

Re: Anyone having LSH? I heard recovery time is 6 days?

I had a LAVH exactly a year ago. I strongly recommend more than 6 days for recovery. Even at 3 weeks I was sore and very tired. I can't imagine already going to work by that time. Your body really needs time to adjust and heal.
LAVH 8-4-09
kept ovaries
removed cervix
