Sore throat

Hi I was just wondering if it is normal that you have a slight sore throat 3 days after having uterus removed? I was thinking it may be from tubes and what not but you would think that I would have felt that right away? also too is it true that the 3rd day after surgery you feel your worst? thank you so much for any feedback I really appreciate it.

Re: Sore throat

My throat started hurting a few days after surgery. I was afraid i had strep. Ends up it was from the breathing tube. When it did not clear up by the end of the first week, I called my doc and he called in a prescription for a mouthwash that helped clear things up.

I think sometimes the 3rd day after surgery can be the worst. For me the first week is kind of a blurr, but those first few days and on into the second week can be a bit rough...

Hope you recovery quickly.

Re: Sore throat

Thank you for the feedback I really appreciate it. I know I was thinking that I was coming down with strep or something too. Has to be from what you said though it makes sense it is just going on my 4th day since my surgery. I sure hope you feel better fast again thank you.

Re: Sore throat

I came home from my LSH on Tuesday with a slight sore throat and the feeling that someone had turned off my saliva glands. A peppermint would not melt - just stuck to my mouth. Sore throat went away the next day - saliva came back the following day. I was also coughing and had bloody nasal congestion. On Thursday it moved into an earache - so I called my doctor on Friday and she said to take Mucinex (which I have not gotten yet). This morning I woke up sneezing (OUCH!!!). So I fear I got a cold in the hospital - but maybe if sore throats can start days later this other stuff can too?

Re: Sore throat

I didn't get my sore throat until 3 or 4 days post op. It's weird how it takes that long. You would think it would start the day of the surgery. Maybe all the drugs we got in the hospital kept the feeling away. Mine last about 3 days. I just suck on hard candy.

Re: Sore throat

I also had a sore throat after surgery and it lasted for about 2-21/2 weeks. I knew from all my moms surgeries that it was from being intubated during surgery. I used some chloraseptic spray for little while and it helped.

Re: Sore throat

Yes! I got one from the breathing tube too. For days I felt like my throat was closing up. I am 4 days post-op and my voice is finally getting back to normal. And I finally have saliva again. That dry mouth/throat stuff was awful!

Re: Sore throat

Sorry to hear you all got sore throats too, you know I was worried mabey I was getting strep and I had some leftover antibiotic from the spider bite I got - my throat hurt so bad I took one and then another the following day and the sore throat went away.. weird. The thing is the keflex is for even strep and phnemonia ya so who knows mabey I was coming down with something, mabey the one nurse that was not so nice was really sick and that is why she did not do a very good job at all. I was suppose to get one of the breathing things with the balls and I did not even get one of those but yet they counsled me on it before the surgery it was so "important" I do that after surgery. Anyhow I was going to whine a little more on how rude she was but I will not I suppose. You all take care have a wonderful Sunday....

Re: Sore throat

Shame on your doctors for not warning you about the sore throat from the breathing tube! Mine told me about that at the pre-op visit, so I stocked up on soup, popsicles, and applesauce ahead of time. Swallowing solid food was painful those first few post-op days.
