Do I need to go to the ER? Or wait till tomorrow's 6 week post op appt?

I have been itching really bad all over. It has been going on for 2 days now. I have already taken Benadryl to ease it, but it is not working at all. I am starting to itch on my incision site now, but I also notice, i get chills, and I feel prickly all over. Is there something wrong with me like an infection, should I go to the ER tonight or wait for my appt. tomorrow.

I'm no doctor but it definitely sounds like a reaction to something. Can you find an antihistamine as that helps me for allergic reactions? Visit the ER if it gets too much - you can't be too careful.

If you don't have a fever, this is actually a semi-normal hormonal response. Dry, itchy prickly skin is one symptom and hot flashes and chills (I call em ice flashes lol) are another. You could call the DR to see but if you don't have pain or fever you're probally ok

I am not a doctor but in the past I had the same problem as you. It was a allergic reaction. If you have been taking benadryl for the last few days and it is not helping then that means you need to go to the Doctor or the ER and they can get you some medication that will work. They ended up giving me a medication that is like benadryl but it is way stronger.

Personally I would not waste my time & money at the ER for itching, I have had horrible entire body poison oak (smoke from a burn pile) and no medicine they can give you can really alleviate the discomfort. Might as well as the doctor for the best he has to offer, but I would be amazed if the ER could do anything other than make sure it was not something scary serious.

Re: Do I need to go to the ER? Or wait till tomorrow's 6 week post op appt?

I toughed it out all night, and waited till my appt. My Dr. says i have a slight infection and I did have a bit of a fever. My BP was 152/106 and Dr was concerned. Was told that it was a menopause symptom and I have to take stronger dosage of my Beta-blocker for my hypertension. So that and the fever and of course a small infection caused me to feel so horrible. But I am doing better now, thank goodness. I see my Gyno on Monday, so that will be my follow up if my symptoms get worse.
