Vaginal cream night before laparoscopic/vaginal hysterectomy?

I was just wondering for anybody else if they have been instructed to use a vaginal cream the night before their surgery? I am having the surgery in two weeks, and everybody that I've talked to so far has said no. Anybody have ideas why they would have me do this? Just for precaution?

I didn't have to but I know some ladies are instructed to use a medicated douche like a betadine douche. I don't know what type of cream you need to use but if its not to treat an infection it might be a similar idea to the douche. If you have a question about it you could probably call and ask the nurse. Best wishes for your surgery.

Re: Vaginal cream night before laparoscopic/vaginal hysterectomy?

I had a TAH and was prescribed and instructed to use Cleocin Vaginal Ovules (Clindamycin phosphate vaginal suppositories) for three nights in a row prior to the day of my surgery. I was told by my surgeon that it was extremely important to make sure I did not forget. Not sure if maybe the cream is similar? Good luck.

Re: Vaginal cream night before laparoscopic/vaginal hysterectomy?

I know the cream is called metronidazole. I think it's the same cream that I was prescribed for a yeast infection while I was pregnant. I was told to take it the night before surgery and four days post-op. That is going to be so uncomfortable to get the applicator down there just right after the surgery! Maybe I'll have my husband do it, I don't know. Thanks for the advice. I think I will call the doctor on Monday just to ask! I've gotten a lot of good information here already that I hadn't even thought of before, and it's helped me feel so much better already.
