A Few Stupid Questions & Surgery Coming Up

I finally have my surgery for uterine cancer coming up next Friday. It's been very hard waiting to get the "real" information about what's inside of me and, of course, I feel very conflicted about loosing all my female parts even at age 56 (a very active and vital 56---feel more like 36 most of the time, which is why it's so hard.)

Anyhow, just a few stupid questions about things I can take prior to surgery. I have stopped taking all my vitamins, fish oil, etc., but can I take things like Gas-X, chewable digestive enzymes (I tend to get heartburn, but it's not serious enough to go to the doctor and am trying to take "natural" things.) I know that anything with ginger in it is not allowed. Any ideas?

Thank you for all of your support.

Re: A Few Stupid Questions & Surgery Coming Up

Call your Dr or anesthesiologist about the enzymes. Shouldn't be a problem, but check to be sure.

Re: A Few Stupid Questions & Surgery Coming Up

I had a pre-admission phone call with a nurse from the hospital, and she very carefully went over all the medication do's and don't's with me. There were some things I was told to stay away from for the week before surgery. Since your surgery is just one week away, you should call the hospital today to get this information.

Also, be sure to add your surgery date to your profile (go to the Quick Links menu in the purple bar toward the top of your screen and choose Edit Details)!
