Mixed Endometrial Stromal?

I went for my 2 week check up today and my doctor has referred me to a Gyn/Oncologist because my pathology report from my fibroid listed it as a mixed endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumor with minimal infiltration. My doctor said she wasn't really worried about cancer, especially since my uterus and cervix were removed. Referral to a specialist certainly makes me worried. Has anyone heard of this?

Can anyone tell me in more about this in terms I don't need a medical degree to understand? Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that your Dr. has found a tumor. Although your Dr. isn't concerned about cancer it may be that you can find the best information from those that have had the cancer.

I hope you get the information you are looking for.

Re: Mixed Endometrial Stromal?

I'm happy to report that after months of worry and more tests and scans than I care to remember...that there is no sign of cancer! According to my specialist who is the director of a gyn onc. center what I had is extremely rare. The short story is that I should continue to have checkups every 6-12 months just like all the other tests we should have done yearly. It is so important to have a second opinion. My first specialist said she'd never heard of what I had and would ask other doctors if they had and what the outcome was for the patients. She said if I did any research on it that it wouldn't be anything I could understand (Am I stupid?) and then wanted to give me hormones to take for 3 months and then see what happened from there! She didn't want to answer any questions I had and never called to give me test results.
The wonderful doctor I am now seeing said he had a problem with a doctor giving out medication without a clear understanding of what's going on. Of giving me drugs just to do something and that it could be more harmful to me. He apologized to me for another doctors' behavior and said that as a doctor you should never forget the human side of medicine!
