This site has been wonderful in preparing for my TAH (Aug 9). I was hoping some sisters might be able to add their insight into my cold vs hot compress dilemma. Most sites I've read recommend hot compresses, however, I find that cold definitely more soothing. But I dont' want to do it simply because it "feels" better.
Hot compresses increase blood flow which will help nerve regeneration and cell repair. Cold compresses feel fantastic but reduces blood flow.
Ok...I have always told my Ortho patients Ice for bones (things like that) and warm for muscles and such....UNTIL I HAD A TAH!!! Can I tell you....I love my Ice pack! My dr didn't tell me to use one and they didn't give me squat in the hospital...until I started reading stuff on here how all these girls talked about the ice pack helping their "swelly belly"....YEP...they day I didn't it....Immediate relief. Hope this helps
I have to laugh because I always tell my husband how much I love my ice pack...lol I am using it less at the 5 week mark but I still love the feeling of using it after walking or moving around alot!
The best feeling is to use a heating pad on your back (when your back hurts) and ice on your tummy!
