Possible uterine cancer and I am scared
Hi there. I'm new here, and scared. I have a HUGE uterus (size of a 6 month pregnancy) with a HUGE (canteloupe sized) uterine fibroid. I knew I was going to have a hysterectomy (I am 56 and 3 years into menopause with no abnormal uterine bleeding at all). At yesterday's gyn. visit to review the ultrasound I had, she was concerned about the size of my uterus, and thought there was a possibilily I had cancer. She wanted to sched. and D&C and something else,. but we talked, and instead she is sending me to a gyn. oncologist. I am SO scared. I am having uterine pain, diarrhea, no appetite and feel horrible. Not to mention I have horrible anxiety disorder which ahs really kicked in with all this. My appointment with the gyn. oncologist is this coming Wed. Any one BTDT?

Re: Possible uterine cancer and I am scared
Sort of...I have cervical cancer and although it's at an early stage, I still worry that it's gone outside the cervix and into the surrounding tissue. I'm sorry you have to worry, but try to think positively. A biopsy is only a biopsy until the results come back. A good cry helps a bit, but don't lose it too much. I found myself fearing the unknown and unknowable and that just added to my stress. Now I just think about the surgery itself and not the possible need for anything else. It's hard, but I do it.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this but am very glad you found us!
First, take a deep breath. Remember, you don't know anything for certain at this point. And, if it is cancer, you very well may have caught things early when they are most treatable. It's very good that your gyn is sending you to a gyn/onc as they are the experts, and you want the very best where your health is concerned.
It's all very scary, but just take one step at a time, sweetie. Remember, we're here 24/7!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am sorry you are going through so much, also. I am trying my best to only think good thoughts, but with an anxiety disroder, it's difficult. But you're right...nothing is known yet, and I will be getting the best medical care. Stay well!

Re: Possible uterine cancer and I am scared
Hi Miss Kittie,
I am also new here and scared also. I also have an anxiety disorder, as well as fibromyalgia. So I think I can understand how you may be feeling. I try not to stress, but am scared, and it is making my fibro flare.
Let's hold each others hand until we know. If it is cancer, I think the women on this forum will be a great support.

The "C" word even with a prefix before it does number on everyone. You have a smart doctor sending you to a gyn/onc, the experts, to be checked out properly. I hope your appointment date rolls around quickly as the waiting is so very hard.
As others are mentioning at this point don't assume anything as there are many reasons for these symptoms. I hope you have good rapport with the new doctor and your appointment and any tests, etc go very well. Please remember we are here just about 24/7 so never hesitate to drop in to ask questions, vent or if a hug might help. Please keep us posted.

Re: Possible uterine cancer and I am scared
Hi misskittie:
I'm sorry to hear that you have to deal with this, but you've come to a wonderful place. The women here are just plain awesome!
I have anxiety disorder too and when my doc first discussed the possibility of cancer with me, my mind went out the window. It's a very difficult thing to deal with at all, but having anxiety on top of it makes it really really hard. When I got my diagnosis, I had a really bad anxiety attack. My doc offered sleeping pills, but I told her sleeping wasn't the problem - it was being awake that was hard. She put me on an anti-anxiety med - xanax - which really helped A LOT. I was able to actually function and make it through the day without having a bad attack. You may want to ask your doctor about something to help with the anxiety. Oh, and relaxation techniques helps too as well as deep breathing exercises.
The waiting is definitely the hardest part. Once you have a "plan of action" it's much easier because you're concentrating on that and being active in a good way.
I'm soo very glad to hear that you are seeing a gyn/onc!! They are the experts.
Sending you huge cyber hugs and lots of prayers that all turns out great for you!
Feel free to private message me anytime.
