Hyst. (TVH) recovery vs. cervical fusion recovery

I had a TVH on July 21. At the time, I also knew that I needed a single-level cervical fusion. I chose to do the hyst. first b/c I do not work during the summer so would have about 2 months off afterward, and also b/c I couldn't imagine recovering from neck surgery and having to deal with heavy bleeding/cramps/anemia while recovering.

Initially, I thought I would wait until next summer for the neck surgery, but am at the point where sooner is better, because of the pain and nerve compression I am dealing with, and I am just ready to get these two surgeries behind me and get on with my life!

I am wondering if anyone here has had cervical fusion either before, or after hyst., what was the recovery time like, is there as much downtime afterward, etc.? Which recovery did you think was easier, or do they really compare?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Were you able to discuss this with your doctor? Hopefully they were able to give you some answers to your questions.

I haven't ever had a cervial fusion personally but hopefully another sister will pop in and be able to help. You can also use the search function in the upper right hand side of your screen. I found a few posts discussing it but nothing specific enough to answer all of your questions.

Please let us know what you found out.

Thanks for your response. I completely forgot to ask my gyn! I did ask my neurosurgeon, though, and she had no idea how the neck surgery would affect hyst. recovery. I'll keep searching, too and see what I can find.
