Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

I have had 2 C-sections and a tubial pregnacy that required surgery. All 3 were emergencies. I didn't really have time to process what was happening until it was over. I have never played this waiting game before.

And Holy Cow I am scared. I don't think I have ever been this scared for a Dr Appt. Not really sure why - it's not like they are going to do anything other than have me sign papers, draw blood, get money from me, and give me instructions.

I think I would rather throw up.

I really hope they knock me out early and hard Friday morning. I would hate to embrass myself by throwing up or having a panic attack before surgery.

Hope you all have a good day,

Whitney

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

Deep breaths and relax, it isn't as daunting as we make it out to be.

We both felt so relieved afterwords that we went out and had a nice dinner. All this time we worried about all these nasty parts (shaving, bowel prep, etc.) and it ended up being a non-event.

Until you get there, just consider it something to endure. After that, it should give you great comfort and take away all the unknowns.

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

Thank you - I think that has alot to do with it - I just don't know what to expect. As I said I have only had emergency surgeries.

deep breath deep breath

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

LisaLouey is so right -- we make it out to be so much worse than it is. The worry I put myself through pre-op was the worst part of the whole thing...and that was self-inflicted!

Honestly, honey, for me, the day of surgery was like: put on this gown...how are you feeling? And the ellipses represent the surgery. And then it was just flowers, backrubs and all the jello a girl could want (by the way, I'm done with jello until 2011).

Stay strong, Whitney. You are going to get through this just fine; don't just think it, know it.

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

The pre-op is nothing, and you'll do fine on Friday too. I know my pre-op appointment itself was fine, but what I found out the doctor wanted me to do, stressed me out, lol! I am more worried about the bowel prep than the actual surgery now. But, it will be over soon, and we will be talking about bowel movements instead of bowel prep, and pain meds instead of how bad it hurts in our tummies now. It's worth it, right? We went through pain to get our kids, and we'll go through this to feel better again. That's the way I have started to look at it. Talk to you later. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

LMAO - never thought I would be talking about bowel movments and prep with complete strangers!!!

But wow how nice it is to know there are others who are just like me!

Thank you all so much - will be back this afternoon much calmer.

Hugs to you all, Whitney

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

My pre-op was this morning. Was not quite what I expected. No pelvic, no bowel prep only have to do a fleet enema and they are taking the cervix as well because you can have bleeding with a cervix since my anemia is so bad they don't want me to bleed afterwards. Looking forward as I can to going to the castle on Friday. We will all do well and will come out princesses.

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

My pre-op was yesterday. 5 hours of shuttling along from one person to the next and I didn't have much time to think about things except at the end when waiting for the chest x-ray. Honestly I felt like I was on some conveyor belt in a factory and I'm not looking forward to going back, but the experience itself wasn't bad. Mostly I just gave and received information and met with the surgeon.

Only when I got home did it really hit me and I had a melt-down. It's the reality of my situation that got to me. I'm trapped without control over this situation and the fear and uncertainty got to me finally. Now I've cried and stormed it out I feel more numb than anything else. This too, shall pass.

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

First off, if you DO throw up, as medical professionals, it is probably nothing they haven't seen or dealt with before, so try not to let yourself be embarassed about that. When I was in the recovery room, trying to get up to go to the bathroom so I could go home (my surgery was done on an outpatient basis), I got really, really nauseated as I returned from the bathroom. I knew I was going to through up but instead, I let out this HUGE belch! Now, mind you, burping out loud is NOT one of the things I routinely do, but at first it was embarassing, but not for long! I was to busy contending with how I felt to worry about what the nurse or my sister thought - they were both understanding and helpful, and it was just no big deal. Now that I think back about it, I have to chuckle, but also remember it made me fell a lot better!

I had a little anxiety at my pre-op appointment, too. It was all very real to me, but when I remembered how much I trusted my doctor, and focused on the fact that I would NEVER have another period AGAIN, I calmed right down! Try to focus on the positive results you expect from the surgery and maybe that will help you not focus so much on the details of the process!

Re: Pre-op Today would rather throw up.

I threw up in my room after surgery, someone handed me a kidney shaped pan to throw up in, it hurt like hell. Someone cleaned me up and I passed back out. They put zofran in my iv and no more throwing up.

My passing out with a 1/2 eaten orange popsiscle on my shoulder that no one noticed until after it melted down on everything was a way bigger event.
