Would like to hear from anyone that has had or is scheduled for a LSH (Laparascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy). How was the experience and what treatment was it for. I am being treated with Lupron to shrink a large fibroid and uterus so that I can have this less invasive surgery.I do not have an exact date but expect Dec/Jan. and would appreciate some imput. Thanks very much.

Laparascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)

Hi, MaryW

I had a laparascopic hysterectomy on August 28. The most amazing, and lonely, thing about a total laparscopic hysterectomy is how unnaturally fast the "superficial" healing is. I was released two days after surgery (my doctor wanted to release me after one). I was up walking around my neighborhood four days after surgery.

However--and this is a big however, especially if you're going to have your ovaries removed--one of the drawbacks of this amazingly fast recovery period is that the internal, deep healing sort of pulls you up short. You'll have various aches and pains (bladder urges were my first; they disappeared after some penicillin) that probably come at exactly the same time a woman who has undergone an abdominal or vaginal will have them. I believe that I actually worried more, in the first six weeks, than women who had had traditional surgeries.

But I always seem to find something to complain about. There's no question that the ability to move your bowels maybe two days after a hysterectomy is nothing to take lightly.

Good luck and God bless.

Laparascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)

Hi Mary

I had a TVH and can't help you where a LSH is concerned, however, if you do a "Search" (that's one of the small purple buttons at the top of the message board) on "LSH" or "Laparascopic" or "Lap", you will see that this procedure is becoming more and more popular.

Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery.
