Time line on returning back to work?

I am curious what everyone's time line on returning to work is? I am trying to figure out what is realistic. I am able to work from home, which I have already been doing on the couch, some invoicing, payroll, lots of phone calls talking to my asst's, etc.
I own 2 ft childcare centers, so it is very hard for me to be away, I am a very hands on person and take the responsibily of the 100 children and parents in my care very seriously. I am at a crossroads on when to go back? I want to make sure I am making a rational decision and not an emotional one..and not going back too soon becuz I feel like I should.

Thanks!

I went back to work today at 6 weeks. It was hard, but I made it til 3:30pm. Was tired, swelly bellied, and hurting......but I did it! Listen to what your body says is enough. Wishing you the best!

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I don't know your surgery type but I returned to heavy work 5 wks post TVH and did fine. I was tired but at 4 wks I thought I could go back, maybe sooner. I had no pain, just tired more easily. Go by how you feel since we are all different but that was my experience.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I had a total davinci and went back Wednesday, that was 15 days post op. I think the type of surgery makes a difference. Abdominal being the longest and davinci being the shortest.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

In had a TVH. I have actually had 2 pretty good days and I actually had to go in and have a 2 hr mtg with my teachers. The boss is away the mice will play! I came home and passed out for 2 1/2 hrs and I am really sore, so I guess I will just take my time

Thanks!

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I am LAVH almost 5 weeks. I was going to return to school teaching 6th graders this week but I went in to help my sub setup and I was sore and tired the next day. My sub said that she was available all next week. I called and got another week off. I have to get the dr. to fill out a leave of absence paper. I am not taking any chances on my recovery.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I had a TAH/BSO and was out 8.5 weeks...I've been back 4 weeks now and am still sore, swelly and exhausted every single night. By Friday I am completely wiped out. My kids started school this week so my days are 5:30 am to 8:30 pm with no rest breaks...I work about 45 hours a week and commute over an hour daily plus have a 1st & 4th grader.

Alot will depend on your individual circumstances...I thought I would recover quickly since I was only 44, thin, in good shape, had exercised until about a month before surgery although I was able to work on arm and core strength, ate well and had a desk job. I assumed I'd go back part time at 4 weeks and full time at 6...silly me.

Good luck.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I work as a Career Counselor and Job Coordinator at a high school and work with students who are in 11-12th grade. Even though I sit at a desk most of the day my Doctor said she would not release me to work prior to six weeks. At first I thought it was crazy-- now four weeks later I still can not stay awake all day and I tire very easily and can not concentrate, so I am taking at least 6 weeks off.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I was told I could go back after 6 weeks - I'm nervous to juggle that plus university (I'm doing a Master's degree part time as well as the full time job).

I'll just have to do the best I can and rest when I can...yikes.

Re: Time line on returning back to work?

I tried this week, my 6th and it wasn't very sucessfull. I may try next week but since I was told I am running about 2 wks behind and now have a gout like thing happening I am think maybe my 8th wks is more reasonable.

I have to deal with some kids sometimes , and not way could I reach down and grab them, I can barely pick up things off the ground and can't even do my own toenails yet.

I just graduated to short bits of stairs this week.

I figure my health and healing is more important right now. I was also told that I will be at much higher risk for a hernia for 1 yr. so I am being very careful.
