Full Bowel Prep Every 2 Wks! Really?

Ladies, if sound like a raving lunatic or like i'm feeling too sorry for myself...Please forgive me! I'm so frustrated at doctors and my insurance co., I could scream.....I was scheduled for surgery back in July, but it was cancelled/postponed because the doctors just couldn't agree on exactly what needed to happen. I have severe adhesions that have caused quite a bit of damage to my colon. No one is really sure where the adhesions are coming from, though my GYN suspects it my left ovary. I am 6yrs post partial hyst.......anyway...I was have had some very troubling gastro issues and they are getting worse, so the gastroenterologist put me on go-lytely every 2 weeks!...He says the constipation is causing further damage, and he's not hip on the idea of surgery. He doesn't do a lot of surgeries to begin with, and he's afraid it will happen again. I don't want that either, but I just can't think that a full bowel prep 2 times a month is a good idea either. At this point, I'm going to be doing this until A) I develop a complete bowel obstruction, or B) For the rest of my life.....makes not one bit of sense to me...am I crazy? Please tell me I'm not! And please, if anybody has any advice...I would welcome it!

Re: Full Bowel Prep Every 2 Wks! Really?

I think that sounds a bit drastic.!
I have adhesions on my small intestines & colon and my GI would never suggest such thing!
I found prune juice can really get things moving. I can't use fiber supplements, as they cause an obstruction. I do eat a lot of "100% whole wheat", some of the items have 30% or more of the daily fiber in them. I find may fruits have to be peeled ( and I love apple skins). If veggies are cooked I'm ok, but some of the raw can be a reap issue).
I have become a stretching addict. I'm finding it has helped to stretch the adhesions.
I've posted some of this on other threads, in case this looks like a repeat.
Hope you can get some relief.

Re: Full Bowel Prep Every 2 Wks! Really?

Thank you! You know, I am a little dumbfounded by all this. I have been asked to stay away from fiber, and prune juice. I have Diverticulosis and it flairs pretty easily (Like when I do a bowel cleanse). My adhesions are so bad that I am unable to go unless it's liquid. It just gets stuck...sorryI know that's a little too much info....I do workout and stretch regularly....but I will look into it on a more theraputic basis. Thanks again! I appreciate your input!
