Hormones after LSH

I had an LSH and my ovaries removed couple of weeks ago and surgery went very well. I just went back to work but haven't had many menopausal issues as of yet but having little trouble with sleep. I am 53 and am wondering when this might happen and if so, if I should or shouldn't do estrogen]. Lot of pros and cons about osteoporosis, heart disease and vaginal dryness etc. if you choose not to. Appreciate any thoughts.

Re: Hormones after LSH

Hello!

I had my TAH/BSO when I was 46. I'm 54 now and still use hormone therapy. I can't imagine not using it! I need it for quality of life. My doctor is perfectly fine with me staying on hormone therapy forever if that's what I want. I do get annual checkups which include a breast and pelvic exams, mammogram and Pap (vaginal vault smear since I no longer have a cervix). So far, all is well!

It's a personal choice. If you feel fine without hormone therapy, that's great! If you find you start having symptoms that hormones would help with, there's nothing wrong in asking your doctor for a prescription. After all, women in natural menopause continue to benefit from the hormones their ovaries make. It seems logical that those of us without ovaries should be able to have hormones, too.

Best wishes as your recovery continues.
