Unhappy - HRT or removal of ovaries post op? HRT or removal of ovaries post op?

Alright, not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I have some confusion and concerns. I saw my doctor today for my 6 month post op visit. I had an abdominal hysterectomy last January and everything but my ovaries were removed.

So my hormones have been going bonkers. I get severe headaches around the cycle time, zits galore and pain in my left ovary. Every now and again I get hot flashes but not real often. So I spoke with the doctor and due to my high blood pressure, sporadic chest pains and migraines he wants to speak with my other treating doctors before deciding on whether hormones will be allowed in my case.

So then I asked what about surgery to remove the one I am having pain in or both. He said we don't want to go down that road if at all possible because I am only 30 almost 31. He mentioned the possibility of endometriosis still being in there on the ovary. He basically said they would consider surgery if I wasn't allowed the hormones but that confuses me because without my ovaries I have to have hormones because it will be surgical menopause. The whole thing is he doesn't want me on HRT for 20+ years.

So I am confused, wouldn't I be on hormones that long even with my ovaries if they allow me to take them?? I am miserable right now and it's like I am going through it all now anyway. The pain in my left ovary is driving me mad at times. The today I had to have tissue removed that was left after surgery- had to chemically burn it and I have to go back in two weeks for another treatment. By the way, that isn't so pleasant either! Ugh....

So anyone out there been through this? Esp. at 30 or 31? Have you had to get the ovaries removed? Or did hormones help this? Sorry feeling lost, confused and just want to feel better.

Thanks Ladies!!

Re: HRT or removal of ovaries post op?

StarrySkies -

I am sorry to hear you are going through this.

If your ovaries are functioning properly you are correct that you could be on hormones for many more years. I know that at times it can be difficult to get everything balanced so that is probably factoring in to the Drs. decision.

I hope they get back to you about this soon and that gets you on a more stable footing with your hormones.

Hopefully there will be some members stopping by to give you some additional information or experiences.
