How long after hyst before mini period? (kept cervix/ovaries)

Hi Ladies,

For those of you who have had mini-periods, can you tell me how long after your hysterectomy you had one? And, was your cervix cauterized?

Re: How long after hyst before mini period?

So, it's been a couple of months since you posted this, Lorracan. What have you experienced?

I had my first mini period exactly one month after my hyster 8/18/10 (cervix and ovaries remain) and one every month since. It's varied from just spotting and slight cramps to more heavy and very uncomfortable cramps. So far, haven't needed more than a panty liner though.

I keep hoping it will taper off into next to nothing but after reading the info on this site I'm guessing it's not going to go away completely. Just wish my doctor had mentioned that beforehand. I should have known I'd be among the small percentage of women experiencing this because I had an ablasion a few years ago and my body repaired that too and went back to bleeding worse than ever. So, a mini period should be a blessing!

I started having mini-periods at the 3 month mark.....that was when my ovaries FINALLY woke up.

Re: How long after hyst before mini period?

PatFan,
I am now almost 7 months post op and I have not experienced any mini periods at all. Not a dribble, not a drop of anything!! It's been wonderful!!! I had SUCH heavy bleeding prior to my hyst that I'm surprised I haven't had ANYthing...not even a red or brown tinged discharge. It's been absolutely wonderful. This has been a totally good experience for me - I have no complaints and I"m so glad to have my life back!!!

Re: How long after hyst before mini period? (kept cervix/ovaries)

Hi Loracann,

I am in a similar boat as you and my doctor told me that I would get a reminder each month of my periods! He said that when you leave a cervix, some glands are still around, causing the bleeding. I had a LSH done robotically in Oct 2010 due to bleeding that never stopped after my second child. No other problems.

On that note, I have had light bleeding each month (panty liner) and each month it is getting worse. No cramping but bright red blood and sometimes little (mini) clot-like things or things that look like endometrium. I have no clue why.

I am wondering if you can grow back any of your endometrium if your uterus is removed but your cervix and ovaries and in tact? I may have to go back in as I don't know why it getting heavier each month.

Hope this helps. I need some questions answered myself, too!
