I think I might have found "THE WALL" ouch
Well Hello ladies. Guess what I found.....Oh yes, I was so proud of myself, I will be 3 wks this coming friday and my first 2 wks were fine. I did all I was told to do and have a great DH. No problems,no bleeding, Kept up on my pain meds. things were going great. Then BAM, all of a sudden it hurt to stand for a few minutes, like a burning in left lower side, It almost brought me to tears, I had to lay down. I now feel every movement. Thank goodness for all of you, or I would really be freaking out. I have read about the wall a little from you but thought It was more of a emotional thing. LIke depression or the blues, now I have read that this is the tender insides learning to cope while the stitches are disolving. Am I right? I have done a bit of walking and had great success, had to rest after but felt I was doing good. But now feel like I am back to week one. very strange. I hope it does not last too long, It really can break your spirit. I am trying to do my best and rest, but starting to feel guilty. Thanks for listening and for always being there
Hope to hear from you soon

I think I might have found "THE WALL" ouch
Hi Deborah,
You sound perfectly normal to me! This is exactly why the initial recovery period is 6-8 weeks long...to get you over this "wall", which can be a very physical one, indeed. Those weakened, healing tissues are being left to "stand on their own" as the countless stitches dissolve.
You are now "feeling" your surgery more. Time to get lots of rest OFF your feet. Walking is still good, of course, but listen to your body as to how much you can tolerate.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT feel the least bit guilty for resting more at this time. Get back in your PJs if you need to. A GYN has stated that the 3-5 week period can be the most fragile in your recovery for the above reasons. Again, that's why early recovery is 6-8 weeks long.
You are still in much need of pampering, and get all of it you can because you are worth it! This was a MAJOR surgery you had, and it will take at least 6 months to a year to fully heal inside. How you care for yourself now will determine how well you do down the road. Remember, you only have ONE chance to heal properly, and this is it!
Of course, always call a Dr. if you're concerned.
My very best to you...

While some increased discomfort may be normal for some, pain that brings tears to your eyes and makes you lie down should be reported to your doctor. While everyone here speaks in terms of their own experiences, you shouldn't take what you read here as medical advice. It's always better to report any new pain or concerns to your doctor.
Hope you feel better soon.

Besides staying off your feet, I forgot to mention that a heating pad can be very soothing for such pains. Take care!

Thanks for the reply ladies
I thought that was the cause. I guess I should explain what the pain was. It is the pulling of muscle. It is like a burn because the muscle was stretched and wants to go back to its normal state. I was told that this is normal. Thanks for the advice of the heating pad, I tried it and it has helped, much better today after staying off my feet yesterday. thanks for the advice.

The wall...
Hi Ladies:
I just printed out this thread for my DH.... although he's been wonderful, he's beginning to mention Thanksgiving at his mother's... a five hour car ride which can include stopped traffic through LA. I'll be exactly 4 weeks post-op and he's thinking I'd enjoy a change of scenery. WRONG!! He's not pushing it, but I just wanted him to see this thread so he can understand that this recovery will take a while.
Plus, I am trying to not feel guilty.
Thanks for listening......

Hi JuliaM,
Good for you! Now, throw that guilt right out the window. Your health is the top priority now, and your "job" is to rest and recover. With all you've been through with this major surgery, do not feel the least bit badly for taking the best care of yourself possible. You are worth it!
My very best to you...
