vaginal vault prolapse

I have symptoms of post-hysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse after TAH 5 years ago. I realize my self diagnosis could be incorrect and have an appt. with my GYN tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, I was hoping if anyone has had this they might give me some info on surgery, recovery, etc.

Thanks!

Re: vaginal vault prolapse

Hi,

Glad to read you're seeing your doctor tomorrow, best to have it checked out by a doctor! I had several prolapses in addition to the vaginal vault prolapse. We tried using a pessary but I couldn't retain them and the next size up was too painful so the only other option, other than living with them, was surgery. My doctor is a uro/gyn, he did all four repairs vaginally. I was in the hospital 2 nights and went home without a catheter. The pain was well managed with meds and stool softeners kept things running smoothly without straining.

I am very, very happy I had the surgery; sex hasn't been this good since before my children were born. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you make out!

Re: vaginal vault prolapse

Diana, that is so great to hear how much easier the surgery was for you than what I had read! I guess I am a big alarmist and shouldn't diagnose myself. My GYN agrees 'something' is going on but is certain it's not prolapse of any sort. Now that he feels it's out of his field, he's sending me to a urologist for possible urethra diverticulum. How excellent that you have a doc that is both! Anyway, the bulge I'm feeling and urge to urinate are symptoms of UD. I should know soon and meanwhile I'm trying to keep a positive attitude, staying away from internet research :-)

Thanks so much for your reply!

Re: vaginal vault prolapse

Hi Carol,

I know what you mean about self-diagnosing! I've thought one thing but after a doctor visit or tests the diagnosis came out of left field and hit me like a ton of bricks. When will you be seeing the urologist?

Re: vaginal vault prolapse

I'm not sure when but should know this week. Meanwhile I'm limiting my intake of liquids before bed and that has helped a lot with the frequency at night. I don't mind it during the day so much because I work at home.
