Metro gel anyone? ( a little gross)

I am 6 weeks post vag hyst and I had what I thought was a yeast infection that did not go away with 3 doses of diflucan. Saw the on call doctor and she said it was a bacterial infection of the cuff and started me on metro gel vaginally and flagyl orally. She said it didn't look like cuff cellulitis which can be very bad, just a minor infection.

My question to anyone who has had to use metro gel vaginally...did you dischagre get worse the first days you used it? I was having a thin yellowish discharge(which I thought was white until the doctor showed it to me). I inserted the gel last night and this morning the discharge was clumpy( sorry to be so gross) I also noticed a few stitches mixed in the clumpiness. The itch and burning seems to be a little better, I am just worried about the change in the discharge. I know metro gel is an anitbiotic which could cause a yeast infection but the numerous yeast infections I have had did not look clumpy like this.

I would appreciate any input, I know you all will tell me to call my doctor but it seems like I call them every other day lately
Thanks for any help

Kim

Hi, Kim!

You're right. You should always call the doctor with any concerns, especially when something is different from the usual.

That being said, I just finished a course of Metro about a month ago, and I did notice an increase in my discharge. I think that just with the medication itself discharging it brings out the extra stuff along with it. I did end up developing a yeast infection after the course of Metro which was treated with Terazol 7. You might consider taking acidopholus and/or caprylic acid if that's OK with your doctor.

Good luck! I hope it clears up soon for you.

I have had to use Metro gel before and my discharge increased as well and looked different. I got better as the days went on. If you feel that it is out of the ordinary please call your doctor. After all he does know you best. Take care

Metro gel anyone? ( a little gross)

I am just 7 weeks post op from a TVH w/ BSO and I am still seeing stitches coming out of me. Of course it only happens after I have intercourse, I guess it dislodges them hehe. Maybe the putting the gel in does the same thing. I didnt have to use the gel.

Squid...Metrogel is a antiboitic gel for infections in the vagina. Not a personal lube type gel.

Sorry, Kim..I don't mean to take up your space, but I didn't want to start a new thread about this. I wish I could offer help on your topic, but I've never even heard of Metro gel...Sorry!

I just read the replies, and it made me realize something...I never had any stitches come out..at least none that I ever saw! Is this unusual?? I remember reading about it pre-op, but it just hit me that it never happened.

Oh well...if nothing else, this will bump your thread up so maybe you will get more replies!

My best wishes to you!

I have never seen stitches come out of me either,i am 6 weeks post,t.v.h.
Is it because they stitch the top of the vagina together when they do this type of op?
Please excuse my ignorance
Do they ALWAYS stitch it together when they do a t.v.h?
Thankyou

I never saw stiches either...my doc said he used the ones that dissolve inside..

I also wanted to make a remark on the infection of the vaginal cuff as I just spent 10 days in the castle because of the same thing...don't mess around with this...make sure you take your antibiotics!!!! and pay attention to your body...keep in touch with your doc about this and make sure it gets cleared up...It sure was no picnic haveing that infection...

take care of your self sweetie...let us know how things go for you

Metro gel anyone? ( a little gross)

hi everyone,

Thanks for all your replies, this site is great.

I am feeling better today and the discharge seems less. I do have some low abdominal pain, sort of achy around the level of my old c-section scar. I am kepping an eye on it. I sure will be glad when the day comes that I am not constantly thinking "what is my pain like, do I itch, do I burn, is that different than yesterday"

About the stitches, everyone has them. It doesn't matter if it is abd or vag. Vag hysts have more of them because the end of the vagina is shown shut. Some women see the remains of the stitches as the are disolved, some don't. In and abd hyst the area to close smaller because the doctor hasn't gone through the top of the vagina to get to the uterus.

Again thanks for all your replies.

re: stitches

I have not noticed any stitches coming out, either...I had a TAH/BSO done 3 weeks ago. I have not noticed any stitches in my urine, or bowel movements.
