Newly diagnosed - endometrial

I had an endometrial biopsy at dr. office. It showed some cancer cells. Was sent to gyn/onc. and was told I needed removal of uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Now I am going to have 28 radiation treatments.@5 external and 3 internal.Pathology report was stage 1, 1BAll is good after hyst. so hoping all goes well with radiation.

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

It seems all Drs are different in regards to further treatment at your stage. Mine recommended 3 brach internal rads but the rad/onc said he didn't think it would benefit me that much so I chose not to. No external rads or further treatment other than surgery. Is yours endo or cervical?

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

What grade was your cancer, they tend to treat more aggressively for higher grade cancers, or other histologically different cancers such as serous papillary. That might explain the different treatments for two people with the same stage

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

I am sorry you have to join the club. I am waiting on my hysterectomy to see where I fall. I had a biopsy tooand it came back with atypical hyperplasia cells -- so I had to do a D&C. The results came back cancerous so now I am waiting on my hysterectomy to see what the next step will be. Good luck with the radiation. I will be thinking about you.

(((Vampire))) I know this is all scary and I am sorry you had to join our club. I too had a 1B dx but with grade 1 my doctors decided further treatment wasn't needed. Do you know your grade? Also, as noted doctors may follow different protocols. Pls keep us posted.

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

Did your onc/gyn recommend having some lymph nodes removed? I have complex hyperplasia atypia and the surgeon wants to remove 20-30 lymph nodes. This seems excessive to me since it hasn't been diagnosed as cancer yet.

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

I am so, so sorry that you're going through this!

I was diagnosed with grade 1 endometrial cancer - and after my hysterectomy found out the cancer was stage 1A. My doctor left in my ovaries and didn't biopsy or remove any of my lymph nodes since the risk of cutting my artery near the lymph nodes was higher, statistically speaking, than the likelihood that my slow growing cancer had spread there. It's so, so important to see a specialist and to ask questions and to get a second opinion before treatment decisions.

Big hug to you! Also make sure to take time to process this stuff. It's big and scary and you deserve to take all the time you need to feel sad or scared or angry.

All my best,

Re: Newly diagnosed - endometrial

Some of us who had Stage I-B, Grades 1 or 2, and received no further treatment were staged under the old FIGO system where B meant less than 50% invasion of the uterine muscle. The new Stage B does not differentiate between less than and more than 50% invasion. Did your pathology report give the depth of invasion of the cells into the myometrium?

I had my cervix, uterus, ovaries, and tubes removed, some lymph nodes checked, and had about 10 % invasion into the uterine muscle. My type of cancer was the less aggressive endometriod adenocarcinoma. I did not have radiation. I wonder what kind and grade of cancer cells you have.

Treatments vary depending on the extent of invasion and the type of cells.

I'm glad that your hysterectomy went well.
