I Have the Incision Glue- What's the Story vs. Staples?

So, what's the story with glue vs. staples? Does one provide better/faster healing than another? Does anyone know what influences a doctor's decision to use one versus the other?

I have the glue, and it just seems so odd to me that this little thin layer of glue is what is separating my innards from the outside world as I heal!! I know inside of me I have actual dissolvable stitches (probably?), but the outside of me is just this cut line with a clear adhesive line over it, literally maybe 1/4 inch wide (incision is 6 inches long or so).

I was groggy when the doctor was telling me about it in the hospital, but I think I remember her saying something about it starting to peel off on its own and me being able to help it peel when it starts?? And I think she said this was at around 10-14 days post op! Well I'm in that window now and it's a bit "peely" around the edges, like if I pushed the issue it would peel....but ew! I don't want to do that! I feel like I'll "spill out"!

I just didn't know if anyone also had the glue, what their experience was, what the deal is with it instead of staples, etc.

Hey there !! I have the glue too. My doctor said that it would just dissolve in the shower, not to pick at it. I have 5 incisions with the glue on 4 of them.

I have 5 incisions 4 with the glue/dermobond too. My surgery was Sept 2. Two of the four spots still have the dermobond on them and I have not messed with them. It came off on the other two and I've been applying scarguard to them twice a day.

I had the glue also. Just let it dissolve on it's own. Might get a little "itchy" in a few weeks, but it will come off.

Re: I Have the Incision Glue- What's the Story vs. Staples?

I have 2 c-sections - 1 with staples and 1 with the super glue stuff. I don't know which is better they both seemed to be ok. The staples hurt but the super glue stuff was itchy. Both were emergencies so my scar was not prettier with one or the other. I had an eptopic pregnacy that required emergency surgery and they put super glue on it. That time it didn't itch - maybe because they were small incisions so it didn't require as much. I was told to leave the glue on until it came off by itself - but I couldn't. I would rub on it in the shower once it started peeling.
With my TAH I came home with 22 staples for 5 days. And they hurt every time I moved. Once they were removed they put steri strips on the incision. That was ok They stayed on about a week and then came off in hte shower. Now it is all good.

Thanks everyone! My glue doesn't itch so far, per se, it's just annoying knowing it's "there"! I think the scar will be ok. I just didn't know if the staples held it closer together and helped it be more narrow? I guess time will tell!

I had dermabond too. Never had an issue with it. No itching, nothing.

My scar looks better this time than it did before. Guess that is difference between docs and emergency or not. Not that I really care - no one sees it but my husband and it is his fault it is there!! At least that is my story.

Re: I Have the Incision Glue- What's the Story vs. Staples?

My surgery was november 29th. Three lap. incisions all covered in a thin sheet of the glue. They started peeling back on the edges on the third day. And luckily stopped.

Day 8 and the glue is still holding. Started itching on two of the sites tonight though. Has anyone had them peel off within two weeks??
